A 2x18 in a 408 style cab tuned as low as can go (Boat Richs fundamental is around 20hz (F0) ) would be freaking amazing.

I know its near impossible with out a huge folded horn design to get to 20hz but as near as we could go (maybe 40hz for the first harmonic) would be amazing as these two 8x10's he's using while sounding phenomenal in the mid range are missing the guttural thunder we need.
This was basically what I was thinking too. Ideally I'd want two of them, but that's cost prohibitive

Cost cannot be a factor in the quest for ultimate tone!!!! :poke:

I kid I kid. You'd still gotta get another amp to power it as well...

I'll have to research some designs, wasn't the acoustic 301 the same basic size as a 408 and that was only a single 18" cab? A 2x18" in that style would have to be massive! Not that that's a bad thing :doom:

Rad looking cabs! Saw these on craigslist while browsing what's for sale in the area on my trip to Blacksburg this weekend.

Yes its the same basic size but the design of the speaker placement and baffles is completely different its a center mount rear facing single 18 that feeds into a W baffle that exits in the front.

I like the stuff. Maybe I'll make the trip and save on shipping.

What's the dimensions on the 15?

skip, you can get down to and below 20hz without folded horns but it gets expensive very very quickly.

and power hungry like crazy

The 1x15" is 22"wide x 22"high x 14.5" deep. I'm also offering free delivery in the Richmond area. :)

Power Hungry is no issue, I believe our plan is to pickup a high power SS amp or power amp (to slave off his main head) for the sub's.

Whats your theory on the cheapest / easiest design to get down into that area for a cab that wouldn't be much bigger than a 301 / 408 / fridge?

that's dreaded C word that gets in the way of perfect subbass cabs.

first step is a pro amp with built in DSP. that way it has built in cross overs and EQ (suuuper fucking handy)

PM me a budget and ill try to finger out an idea.

Thing is we don't have a budget yet we're trying to get an idea of how much we'd need to save up. I think cheapest isn't the word I should have used but simplest is. Like would a 301 type cab but resized for a 21" speaker, or something like a 2x18 or 4x15 in a 408 style enclosure.... you get the idea. I know for sure that the 408's stock can handle Drop G like a champ, and we're only a step below that.

The pink 1x15" went out to an ILF bro in Florida today!
Starting two new cabs tomorrow, I'll be sure to post some build pics for those who are interested.

Just finished up this 4x10", I had a set of four vintage unknown brand guitar speakers kicking around that I wanted to try, they ended up being complete crap so this cab is currently unloaded. Took about 8-10 coats of stain to get the blue color to where I wanted it but I think it turned out great!

Also here's a couple build pics for those who may have been curious about my construction method. In this one you can see the plywood bracing strip which is glued and nailed into each inside corner, and also the solid oak strip which is glued into the outside corner so that the plywood edge is hidden on the finished product.
Image

This next shot shows the solid oak "picture frame" trim being glued up, and shows the bracing strips in each of the four corners.

Also thanks to everyone who has like my page on facebook! I've definitely noticed a few ILFers on there
