Cause....that ain't true.
I saw High on Fire tour on their first record... it was awesome.....
I saw On on tour on Conference. It was awesome.....
Everything those guys are involved with is unimpeachable. The same way water is wet.

High on Fire is amazing and I generally enjoy Om for those "chill out" listening sessions, so I agree with D.o.S here
but if you don't like Mötorhead, I can see how you wouldn't like HoF for sure

Via the facebook:
From the temple stone
Smokes the lambsbread
Through dream, sleep and in waking.
Toward the weed fields
To That which holds the worlds
Walks the Sinsemillian.
Refutes death
Remains stoned constantly
The dealer breaks the eclipse.
Backpatch.
All are stoned thereafter.
Stoned chariot ascending
Smokes the true believer.
Life complete
The dealer is my refuge.
Heavy dry weight
Hasheeshian smoked relief.
Backpatch.
Iommic life complete.
What, no room for "freedom", "pass into", "celestial" or "heirophant" ?

There was the archetypal "ascending" though, of the "chariot", no less.
Not enough bird metaphors for my liking.
Weedian FAIL.
And also, Iommic Lyfe can never be complete.

no priest/ess either. But pretty stoked that backpatches are now sanctified ecclesiastical garb.

While we're speaking about Om
Conference of Birds IS
THE superior album

but I like them all
I mean how could one not like this
the bass tones are too good... and the drumming is STELLAR

truth is Om GROOVES fucking HARD. With any drummer
and I like every little gimmick about them, even the sometimes ridiculous lyrics
now... High on Fire are awesome too, mainly because of Matt Pike
and together, they are a gargantuan beast of a band called Sleep. Sure, Holy Mountain is a lot of Sabbath, but it might be the best Sabbathy Doom i've heard to this day. And Dopesmoker is something else completely... i mean the whole concept and the size of it. It's repetitive, but in that right hypnotic way.
Sorry, my chariot is currently coming down from its ascension. But still - I stand behind my words

Axel, Conference is still my favourite Om album.
Nothing beats Flight of the Eagle.
If Bhima's Theme or Universal Knowledge of the Godhead were an hour long each, then maybe....but Eagle rules.
After seeing parts of Dopesmoker live and hearing those Holy Mountain cuts in the real life, there is nothing better. Mountains of awesome. Holy ones.
Excuse me, I've got to regail the freedomward dove, send out some photonic waves and traverse some Cheopian fields.

holy mountain is sabbathy as all hell but at the time there weren't many bands really doing that, at least without avoiding the self consciously retro way like Sleep did (they always seemed more like total burnouts than dudes who spent ages combing thrift shops for the right pair of flares to me). I mean in 2014 when everyone's buying expensive mountains of amps and forgetting how to write a fucking riff because you don't need that for TEH BROOTALZ DOOM TOANS then they don't sound that remarkable but it was pretty goddamn mindblowing for the time.

^This.
Plus the production on Holy Mountain is so awful (to me) that it is nearly avoidable on listenability alone. But those tunes man....they say it all.
(Note, I grew up in the 90s and I'm used to hearing records that sound shitty, so its not really a big deal. Whats up with bands these days trying to do that on purpose? Thrift store combing, indeed.)

yeah I've always wished holy mountain had the production quality of jerusalem. Those songs would have so much more guts.
