Some great recomendations for awesome sounding pedals here, but I think folks are getting carried away. BAT stuff is going to sound way to good for what he's looking for if I'm reading it right.

Elements. although with the elements and HM2 you may be tempted to make it sound better than it should.

Rats can sound great but it's def going to keep you in that cutting harsh tone area.

Maybe solid state amp distortion (Randall RG100Es, a la Crowbar? Nuthin is sludgier than Crowbar) is in order?
Could you pick up an old Randall head on the cheaps stateside? Same as a couple of boutique peds?

HM2s huff mad dong, sorry. Can't understand why they're so popular, especially currently in the hardcore scene. Dudes with HM2s into 5150s or Beta Leads abound. I don't get it. They seem to be the easiest way to completely disappear from a mix.

You can totally cut out all the lows on an FZ2 with the EQ, and they're dope and way loud.

The Elements will seriously do whatever you want it to. It's the Swiss Army Distortion.

Rats are tight, but they kinda aren't grindy enough for what I think you're going after. Though, buy one anyway. They're really just tops.

also, if'n yr lookin for Dime toanz, get a RG80 or a Century or something. It's totally where it's at. Also, consider getting an EQ pedal just for added sculpting. With the Elements, you won't really need it, but that's how Dime always got his overall sound. Dude took a 6 band MXR EQ with him wherever he went.

Also, potentially consider a Dano Fab Tone? It's supposedly a cheap Guvnor clone, and they're really great for roughly $20. Plus, if you hate it, they work pretty well as a doorstop.

I have a Randall Cyclone, but I think the distortion is thicker than what I'm looking for. Guess I never tried thinning it out with the built in graphic eq, and that eq is super powerful on that amp. Also have an old Japanese Ibanez graphic eq pedal.

When I say Dimebag, I'm talking about a super-obscure sludge punk band from the 90's (1 CD on Heat Blast was their only release, search for "Crack Torch" on youtube), not Pantera Dimebag Darrell...
