When I think of Boss, I think one idea rendered in a stable, repeatable, sturdy way. Boss is dependable, physically and audibly.
When I think of Earthquaker Devices, I think of one weird idea rendered in a stable, controllable, masterful way. EQD is art, physically and audibly.
When I think of DOD, I think of an interesting idea executed questionably. Either the idea is flawed or the execution leaves something to be desired. DOD is chaos, physically and audibly.
When I think of EHX, I think of an idea rendered most of the way to completion and released with a flaw. EHX is promise unfulfilled.
There's a reason my board is all Boss, EQD, and TC Electronics these days.

I think you all are being a bit harsh towards EHX - theres no question they started the whole organ sounding guitar, years before EQD put out the organizer. It seems like a few EQD fan boys here are a little butthurt. I love EQD and all but I was thoroughly disappointing with the organizer, the spin chip just doesnt do great octaves like the POGs do, and lets be honest, the Organizer seemed like it was a boutique response to the POG. Im just surprised that you all have written it off before even hearing a demo.

...... Freeze/Supra Egoist is pretty awesome though.
Yeah but even the freeze was flawed when released. No momentary/soft touch stomp made it hard to be accurate, and the power supply filtering was abysmal, introducing all sorts of noise into a signal chain.
That's why ehx annoys me - it's like they get 85% of the way through the design process then just release shit regardless. And I'm not even going to mention their ah... "Visual identity"...
thumbs way up in the airrrrrrrrrrr.
yep. they suck. suck buttholes right inside out. it's like they don't have anybody actually PLAY the things they make before they release them. i don't even care what they say anything "new" does, because they'll have done SOMEthing along the way to completely fuck it.
nooooot a fan.

I definitely haven't. I've hesitated picking up an organizer for a while because I want something kiiind of like that but not exactly, this might be what I want! Just similarly to everyone else, most of their pedals I've had I have loved except for some fatal flaw in the design (SMMH and DMM have dumb mix controls that result in a volume drop, stereo polyphase has some coool features but just fundamentally sounds boring...). They still make some very cool and unique pedals.

I kinda agree with this. Ive not bought a EHX pedal since that one, in terms of release history.
The old big box micro synth is fucking brilliant too, and Ill bury my head in the sand to anyone that says otherwise.
For me the shittest sounding EH pedal is the Holy Grail, but people bum that to high heaven...ugh.
Oh wait, I have the flange hoax.that pedal is awesome. it came after the POG.
TL;DR Ian talks shit about EH

My first pedal was EHX (a Russian Big Muff). Thing is, modern EHX stuff is too... close but no cigar. I expect the B9 to have some cool sounds, but be enormous and limited in some way.

hahahaha
I actually have a Holy Grail on my board BECAUSE it sounds like shit. I've not found a reverb that's sounded as junky, and I think that's what I like about it. It sounds flawed, is noisy, washy, and treble-heavy. The Belton brick reverbs are awesome and have their place, but the Holy Grail is just flawed in the best way in my eyes

This is acceptable. Its people who actually think it sounds like an actually good reverb that just get me to go

QFT.
The Organizer is a clever way of making a feature out of a somewhat dodgy way of generating polyphonic octaves. Cudos for that, but I'm with you the whole way Teej.
Still, I'm waiting for EHX to bugger up this B9 thing in some slight but meaningful way.

I suppose I've been lucky in my experience with EHX and have nothing negative worth saying

Interested to see what this sounds like, and what controls they incorporate.

Zooming in on the image, the white knob is labelled 'Organ Type' I can't work out what the partially visible label on the 4th pot along might say but there'll be some control of the modulation with at least one pot, then maybe just +/- octave and dry would be my guess.
*sigh* i'm probably going to like it so better get saving.

RE EHX: I think if you want basic shit that does the job and doesn't have a fuckton of features going on, so you can set it and forget it, then they are a good option. In that way they're like MXR to me. You know, keep it simple, sounds good enough, price is ok, thatll do.
Go beyond a muff, small stone or clone though and....meh.
Memory man is the obvious exception.
There are a heap of innovative ideas there, some of which have been done awesome, but as most of you guys have said, the new shit falls short of the high standards the old shit set.
I still wanna hear this one though, because if it IS done right and the features DON'T suck and the price is reasonable.....

What's the difference between the different organ sounds? They say Manzarek, which seems to have been a Vox continental; Booker T played a Hammond M3; Cavaliere and Smith played a Hammond B3. I guess that's what the organ type knob is about.

I'm in Scruffie and Teej's corner on this one. The POG/POG2/HOG were fucking amazeballs pedals, and the Organizer was very obviously a boutique-y attempt at expanding on that idea. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but people shouldn't act like the Organizer was some inspired piece of pure genius that popped out of the ether.
And I apparently have had really damned good luck with EHX compared to most people here. Almost every pedal of theirs I've tried has been cool and did what I needed it to without much fuss.
POG/BMS/Flanger Hoax are all pretty much the top of the line pedal out there for what they do. Also, I dug the Wiggler, Germanium OD, the Mistress, the DMM and the DMB
But yes, there HAVE been a few clunkers. The Bass Muff, the Blogger, the Worm, the Metal Muff and the Nano Clone were all swings-and-misses, and I'm sure I could come up with a few more if I thought for a few minutes
