The only thing that actually broke was a boss EQ when somebody spilt half a can of beer right into the fucking sliders. Even at that it still kinda works.
I want an intense noise rock band where I can hurl stuff around
Seriously.
I'm at this point where I want functionality out of everything. If I'm playing a noise show, it doesn't really matter if I bring a bunch of my fancy shit, because those are the shows where people either totally zone out, or if they're lame, they fall alseep or leave. I'd like to play in some kind of rowdy band. But in that case, I'd play only beater guitars and use stuff I can replace easily. Plus some of my favorite rig rundowns are the ones where all of the musician's gear is there out of necessity, not just to be extra fancy

Lets start one!
To be honest I really think most decent guitars will take some serious shit before you actually 'break' them. I mean even if you did say snap a neck or bust a pick-up, most guitars have readily available parts that you could swap out quite easily. Even pedals can take a bunch of shit as long as they're in metal casings and don't have LCD screens or anything that can be bent or broken off. I really don't think anybody can 'break' a solid body guitar unless they run it over with a car or drop it out a window.

Yea, even then you have throw things at them to break them.
I never did kill a much more fragile Boss multifx from the stone age on tours, despite my utter lack of care.
Pretty much if you're not throwing guitars into speaker cabinets, it's cosmetic damage.
I was never one to care about the spectacle much though, I usually played sitting down even when it wasn't a physical issue, partly to just make a point.

Currently, sadly to say, I don't gig. But if I did, I'd probably leave my more expensive items at home. Most of my high-dollar items are for their flexibility when writing or recording, I have lesser items that can approximate "good enough". Last time I gigged regularly I learned a consistent less-than-ideal sound was superior to "great toanz" that happened every so often. Also less disappointing.

I think my Second Voice is the most expensive thing I own currently. Getting a Fuck Mountain soon that will top that. I have only managed to use the second voice in 2-3 songs, but they're 3 of my best/favorites. There's probably less than a minute of total use though. Definitely haven't gotten my moneys worth yet, but I don't want to overuse it.
I would be a little scared to gig with it though. But then again, I'm scared to take my board anywhere.

Can't comment 'cause I hate pedals.

I definitely have a bunch of pedals that I don't gig out, but do use for recordings. Hell, that's kind of the whole point of my personal recording projects: to enable my pedal addiction! Also, when I play live, I really don't like fiddling with knobs and stuff - I'm a set it and forget it kind of guy. So a lot of my wackier stuff stays home, so I can mess with it then.
I will certainly sell pedals that I feel are REALLY redundant or not getting any love, live or at home. But I will also cop to hoarding a wee bit. Just a smidge.

I used to feel like this and I hated it.

Unless the pedal was impractical for live use (weird layout, weird power supply, HUGE), it would be on the board.
Now days I follow this logic thankfully. Only way to go imo.

Joking aside, I bring all my pedals in and out of the rotation.
I've brought everything to studio and gigs.... ranging the gamut of my early 90's beat-to-hell Boss peds to my Toneczar and vintage stuff and everything in between.
I too am of the mentality that I'm not a collector....I'm a player who happens to have a collection.

Hmm, i have a shit ton but Happen to use The cheaper ones more... But i don't think much about it. Some things work in a specific context, others don't. It is like a painter: cool to have all colours. Black and white pictures are cool too.
