I've got a Guyatone MO-3 and I assume it is similar to the Blue Box but a bit more versatile. There's also the Guyatone MOm5.

I put the c11 mod on a switch, and added another toggle to flip between down one or two octaves. Made the thing much more versatile, while still keeping its basic character.

YeaH a straight up clone is unnecessary, however I'm very interested in people taking the idea to the nextJero wrote:That's how I feel. They are damn cheap, just buy one and mod it if needed.rfurtkamp wrote:if the volume issue is a problem, yea, just do the mod.
There's no real need for clones.
It's a bit of a vintage odd ball, but options on it are cool, korg octave v for the modular pme system.
Five octaves, 1 up, normal, 1 down, 1 1/2 down, and 2 down. If that wasn't enough you can change the distortion level for each of the octaves...

I've got a hella modded Blue Box for sale. The 1/2 mod is awesome. C11 is awesome. Boost at the output stage is awesome. Maybe I shouldn't sell it...

Nobody's talking about the Reuss Evil Twin? Not only do you get the Blue Box but also a Distortion+ in the same box for not much (more than a real blue box tho) and also you get to feel like Rowland S Howard which is priceless.

^That's pretty sick actually. I still stand by the $50 blue box I just bought though, cuz it's cheap and small and does what I need it without stuff I don't need...
But if I didn't already have a couple other dirt peds at my disposal, that Evil Twin would make a lot of sense.

Got the Gears here now, it's pretty good, sounds cool.
Both the -1 oct and -2 oct have this nasty sawtooth like sound to them which I dig.
The drive itself isn't too powerful, a bit on the woolly side maybe but you can get some really nice sounds combining it with the unison voice.
On the last quarter of the turn it makes the -1 oct and -2 oct quite a bit heavier / deeper but it also makes them track less tight.
The filter is a bit tricky I think, it would have been great to have a footswitch to turn it on/off because now it can really make things sound a bit weak if you don't dial it in right, for sweeps you'll probably want to set it up with a higher resonance but that makes the low end go away if you're playing it static / not using the expression pedal, which is a bit of a bummer.
Overall I really prefer my Pollyanna, it sounds heavier and deeper, can track tighter as well as more sloppy, has an additional octave up and paired with my Xerograph Deluxe or MF Drive it gets more diverse and synthy sounds.
As an all-in-one package bass synth style box the Gears is pretty awesome though and probably my favourite next to the Bass Micro Synth, if that's what you're after I'd definitely recommend it even though it's a bit tricky to set it up.
