My recommendation from what i've tried would definitely be the cosmichorus. If you set it mostly wet with just a tiny bit of pitch modulation it is phat. The tone/volume/mix knobs are awesome for tone-shaping.
It is easily the least 'cheesy' chorus I have tried.

Maybe something like the instant lo-fi junky would be a good bet? I haven't tried one of those, though.

I still really want to try the polytope and DC-2/3 too. Chorus/flanger/doubler effects are my favourite effects but i'm really picky about them.
I've also got some sounds out of the A/DA flanger that could be called fat, but not subtle that's for sure.

Really? actually I found it on the thin side compared to maxon, sovtek small stones and the Moog mf103, which is my pick for phattest phase The Whetstone to me was cool on guitar but on bass it never cut it for me in a band setting, even my phase 45 held up better on staying beefy On the other hand… it IS the most clear and uncolored phase I've ever owned

"Fattening" I go for ADT-type stuff from the rack. Detune on the old Quadraverb, light verb/delay, and poof. If I set it right, I notice when it's off, not on. Also would look at running the right filter in there to bring in desired clean unaffected frequencies.

In a pedal, I don't know where I'd go, probably an old CE-2/3 or DC-2 set low.

If you're interested in the Instant LoFi Junkie I'd suggest the Warped Vinyl, it doesn't have the annoying pop / tick to the attack, it sounds much better and is way more versatile.
The Pigtronix chorus vibrato sounds horrible in my opinion, just very ugly and seasickness galore.
If you don't mind really hearing the LFO / throb then I'd also suggest a phaser, vibe or something similar.
Black Cat Vibe (the thickest vibe I know of and it has a beautiful vibrato too)
MG Vibe (almost as thick as the Black Cat and the vibrato on there sounds more filtery, it's a very interesting sound also for thickening)
VFE Enterprise V1 (has the same filtery vibrato sound with the mix full up)

The delay on the BitQuest is awesome. You can get it down to 5 ms and control it from 1 to infinite repeats. And in clean mode you can modulate the delay time (sort of) which will give you wacky modulation. I own a few delays, maybe 5 I think, and this is the only one that has sounded like "thickening" rather than clunky short delay time.

And the flanger on it is positively awesome. Nothing to do with thickening but hey, good flange is good flange!

I usually run my amps on the cleaner side, probably not much past the edge of breakup. Most all of the gain is coming from pedals.

Understood, I'm guessing you probably don't want to hear the LFO much in this thickening then so chorus would be the most logical choice, goroth's suggestion of a thickening delay is an interesting one as well.
The Warped Vinyl is awesome, definitely try it out if you get the chance.

Well, spacelordmother, it's not that I'm necessarily against plug-ins. I've just never used 'em. I think I might if I were more tech savvy.

I don't mind hearing the LFO, Tristan, as long as it's not too prominent sounding. I've tried phasers and flangers and they can both get fat sounding. Goroth's delay suggestion is a good one. I haven't tried my Ibanez AD-80 yet. I'll have to do that. It's one of my favorite fat delays.
