Hey Syl, you could also try the BYOC Flanger, it's a lot cheaper than the A/DA and it is said to cop some of the A/DA, Electric Mistress and MXR sounds.

I've tried a BYOC, and while it sounds good, the A/DA sounds better.

I've never tried either, you being the flanger king of ILF I should've known you tried both.

Could you elaborate on the sonic differences and similarities between the Deluxe Electric Mistress, BYOC and A/DA?
If I recall correctly you're not the kind of guy to use a flanger for rotary or chimey chorus type of sounds, right?

Ouch, that's a tough one. Sure, I'll try.
I'll say that if a flanger doesn't have four knobs, that's a deal breaker.
So, the Deluxe Electric Mistress isn't the flanger for me. It's sort of for flanger purists. I like the Filter Matrix feature, but it doesn't generally get as wild as I like. I really need to be able to control the delay time.
The A/DA is just super versatile. It can do Deluxe Electric Mistress style sounds, but does a whole lot more as well. There's lots of control to it and it sounds fantastic at whatever is does.
The BYOC I borrowed from jrmy. It's nice and covers a lot of ground, but didn't quite excel at any one sound in my opinion. It has stereo outs, which is neat, but that doesn't really push it over the edge into the true winner's circle for me. I think it'd be fine for someone who doesn't use flange that often.
Those are my recaps in a nutshell. Hope that was helpful. I'll try to answer specific questions if you have 'em.
Yeah, I usually don't use flangers for the stereotyped flange sound, they're so much more versatile than that. I do like the swooshiness, but also like flangers for vibrato, fixed filter type sounds, steel drum tones and the occasional jet plane noises. I change the settings immediately if I encounter anything remotely sounding like chorus.
Oh, I also love flangers with really slow sweeps.

My big thing the last few years, is that I pretty much need to have a flanger that does through-zero flanging. I keep the DOD around because it's the best "normal" sounding flanger I've ever heard. For pretty much everything else, I just love that through-zero sound so much. So that limits my choices a bit. Pretty much down to the Mobius/Orbit, the Flanger Hoax, the Foxrox, and a couple others. And the Tunnelworm is the new kid on the block that does it. I tried the Vortex, and the through-zero wasn't prominent enough.

I've been listening to Barracuda a fuck ton lately... I'm really only into Heart's radio singles, but I love that flanger shit on that one.... I just can't jive with the folkier side of Heart. I wish they rocked more. Nancy Wilson was a fuckin' sexy fox playing that flanged shit. She's the kind of lady who knows how to respect the flanger.....

I know you're the TZF GUY so I thought of you when I was reading this from the new toneprint editor manual...
TZFlanger (“Through zero”) setting
The TZF Mode Flanger emulates the original way of creating a flange effect where two identical pieces of audio material were played back simultaneously on two tape decks and then mixed on a third deck. The “flanging” effect was achieved by slowing down and speeding up the two decks at different times. An essential part of this setup is the unique phase cancellation occurring when the two signals pass each other in time (the “zero
point”).
I'm doing some TZF on the Flashback right now... They have an Adv. Flanger preset and I tweak from there...
HEART RULEZZZ...
There was controversy about that song when it came out cause people thought is was about them being incestuous lesbian sisters...

I like the Vortex a lot, but it's a wee bit cold sounding and sometimes it's a little difficult to dial in. It's totally capable of some insane sounds though.

Nancy rocked a flanger on "Magic Man", too. It's a fucking great sound and an amazing song. Plus a kick-ass Minimoog solo in the middle.
