Octave (Down) Pedal on the cheap?! School me.

Because I always use it before another dirt pedal, I didn't even do the C11 mod as it is not noticeable then. I really like to stack it with my RAT (or more aggressive fuzz/fuzztortion type pedals)

I missed out on the $25 Danos, hoping I hear back on the $40 Boss. In the meantime, still have my eyes open...

You can find used EHX Octave Multiplexers for $40 all day long and they're the best octave pedal out there. I've owned the POG, POG2, Micro POG, boss oc2 & oc3, almost every incarnation of digitech whammy, the digitech harmony man, mxr blue box...I think the only one I haven't messed with yet is the EQD Organizer, but I will eventually. The OM might be a little glitchy but man it sounds so cool.

The best one for me is the FoxRox Octron (it's not cheap).

That's the price I see them for on craigslist whenever they pop up, which, admittedly, is less frequent these days. I just traded my oc3 for one that was on CL and he had it listed at $40. I've seen a few others in the last few months for 40-45.

While you cats were off butt slurping, yesterday I snagged the aforementioned $40 oc-2 via cl.  Only had a moment to fiddle with it today...

Is the significant volume difference between -2 vs -1&0 to be expected?  I figured -2 would be somewhat quieter but this is pretty drastic. My rig is fairly low end friendly - vintage Traynor feeding a 4x10 and 2x15 - so the speakers and amp should be able to handle it.   

Trying to figure if I got a dud or if it is what it is.

I'm not sure what you're tuned to, but some notes two octaves below even standard guitar tuning are frequencies that are below the range of human hearing. So you'll be able to hear some stuff in the harmonic series of the notes, but not the note fundamental, which means a lot less amplitude and a quieter perceived volume.

Unless you're playing widdly widdlies high up on the neck and the volume is still really quiet, then maybe it's a dud.

So far I've only had a chance to test it with a couple of my osconoisesynth dealies and my Tele, which is more or less in standard tuning. Even higher on the neck, the output of the -2 octave is still noticeably lower than the -1, direct, or bypass sounds....

Maybe it's a dud, but at this point I don't care - I dig it.

With my Tele it's a perfect match. Able to bring out the extra fullness and glitchy doubling sounds depending on dynamics and what/where I'm playing on the neck. Mid/high register single note lines sound like Mary Timony fronting Spinal Tap as part of a guest appearance on South Park. First position 6th string violence = Kim Gordon tones, early b/w SY era. Complex chords come out chewy with something that feels rather than sounds like modulation - almost akin to switching to a Jag after playing 25.5" scale. If I was to get the proverbial band back together, I could easily imagine this being an almost-always-on kinda pedal...

Still not super happy with it when paired with my Skychord - but need to play with it some more. Fucking EVIL when paired with my Black Death. Serious possibilities with that combo - rumbling percussive nastiness, likely to result in considering purchasing a 18" speaker, hearing loss, and eventual madness.

Have a line on an Arion Octave, hoping to get that tomorrow. Will either keep with ever one I prefer, or, more likely, put one on the guitar board and the other on the noise board.

sounds badfreakinass
more like a feeling of low rumble i guess
even into a bass amp -2oct by itself is all growl
kind of unusable on its own
but rollin behind riffage its dope
