I actually did that with a 1x12 cab that I was building. Got really pissed at the finish, took a blow torch to it and got some pretty cool effects.D.o.S. wrote:Fuckin light it on fire

I've decided to purchase a telemaster body.

Plus it helps me feel like im not just buying a new body just to change the color im getting a whole new guitar RIGHT?
How likely is it that I'll be able to buy a body that all my hardware will bolt right on to without much modding? I don't really have any tools.

You'll need at least a few tools.

Should have been more clear. I have normal hand tools. I just don't have any wood working tools or a drill.

You will probably 100% need a drill. Most pickguard holes aren't drilled and you might need something like the control plate holes drilled out as well. Doesn't need to be a drill press, just a handheld drill to get the pilot holes drilled and go from there.AlexanderWOLF wrote:Should have been more clear. I have normal hand tools. I've never done this with a guitar, but I have with other wood working.skullservant wrote:You will probably 100% need a drill. And I'm pretty sure it would work on a guitar as long as you tape down the spot beforehand to avoid finish chipping and be SUPER careful.
But couldn't you 'drill' pilot holes by lightly tapping a nail into the spot you want to drill with a hammer?
Then you wouldn't need a drill
Again, I've NEVER done this with a guitar, and wouldn't want someone ruining a new guitar body over a dumb suggestion....

I wouldn't really advise it for the control plate holes, if it's set up like a tele control plate. The holes are close to the edge of the cavity and could blow out.
You MIGHT be able to get away with it for the pickguard, but I wouldn't advise doing it

Hahahah I only speak from experience!
I've had holes blow out (TWSS, I suppose) on guitars for important things like the plate and it just sucks. Not saying it can't be fixed, but if you do it right the first time you won't have to worry about it again!
I've done stuff the complete wrong way with some of my guitars (like routing out my Jaguar with a hammer and a screw driver) that I just look back on and say to myself, if I was patient and did it right the first time, I would have been a little happier and had less of a headache hahah
