Yeah I actually do like that finish. Those peace sign knobs though, jesus christ. And it comes with a hemp case with tie dye insides. I'm surprised it doesn't come with a black-light Bob Marley poster and a hackey sack.

I haven't tried the other 2014 models yet, but I tried out a 2014 SGJ on two occasions at Guitar Center. It's a really nice guitar especially for the price. Give it a try and I bet you would be impressed. I'm hoping to pick one up later this year and there's no reason I need another SG.

Keep trying gibson, ones of these days you'll listen to your customers not to your shareholders.

Re: Gibson 2014
Agreed. One of the best values Gibson has ever offered IMO especially if you can negotiate some money off or find one used eventually. Mine plays and sounds way better than a Standard I owned in the past, just far more resonant with good sustain for a 6.5lb guitar. Setup very well too. Oh, and I really dig the Zebra pickups so I won't have to dump more ca$h into replacements.Krosis wrote:I haven't tried the other 2014 models yet, but I tried out a 2014 SGJ on two occasions at Guitar Center. Isn't Gibson a privately owned company?Ancient Astronaught wrote:Keep trying gibson, ones of these days you'll listen to your customers not to your shareholders.

I was kind of interested in that SGJ when MF was blowing them out for like $400, but I was very wary about buying one sight unseen because of my experiences with their budget models. That's awesome that it's actually decent!

Re: Gibson 2014
They very well could be, I don't follow their actual business logistics. It just seems that in the past ten years fender has started listening to what their customers want and making it or atleast attempting to. While gibson takes what the customers say they want and do usually quite the opposite, and their experimentation side has gotten ugly (see the Firebird X).friendship wrote:Isn't Gibson a privately owned company?Ancient Astronaught wrote:Keep trying gibson, ones of these days you'll listen to your customers not to your shareholders.

ALL I WANT IS NECK BINDING ON YOUR SUB THOUSAND DOLLAR GUITARS!!!!!!
Seriously if a hundred other companies can put neck binding on 100 dollar guitars why can't Gibson put it on their 800$ guitars?!?!?! Is it so they can charge double the price and label it as a standard while effectively only costing them maybe 40 to 50 bucks more?

I like the brown sg and the les Paul junior I very well might grab if its not neck heavy like my jay turser. Other than that, meeeeh.

The SG has a thin-ish 60's style neck, not neck heavy at all. Not sure about the LP...BitchPudding wrote:I like the brown sg and the les Paul junior I very well might grab if its not neck heavy like my jay turser. Other than that, meeeeh.

Re: Gibson 2014
24-frets on an SG... I don't dig it. I think they were on to something with this range, but they completely fucked it up with the presentation and a couple of the models. They look so tacky and cheesy. It appears that they're aiming this new selection at young teenagers with $2000 to throw away.

Re: Gibson 2014
gibson have been making some great cheap models in recent years--one pops up here and there. i'm impressed by the lp melody maker in this bunch, especially for $569. they could have just put a dot at the 12th, though.

Re: Gibson 2014
yeah see I looked at it and saw the LPJ, SGJ, and melody maker and I think those things are far and away the best thing gibson's done in years. Rest of it is garbage but like...at least there's no firebird x's or holy explorers this time around.

Very true. They're small all around, just feel tiny compared to other guitars. Sound big tho.sylnau wrote:SG are for small hands.
