'pac and Biggie (I rep the West, but "Notorious Thugz" is the shit). Dr. Dre only revolutionized rap what, four times? Eminem being one of those. Can't knock Jay-Z's hustle. Lil' Wayne is a deranged genius. Wu-Tang Clan is indeed nothing to fuck with - Raekwon, Ghostface, M-E-T-H-O-D Man (with Redman if you want a killer live show). UGK for life, RIP Pimp C. DJ Quik and Battlecat on the track. The Game is manages to make great records despite not being a very good rapper. Bay area - Keak Da Sneak, The Team, Hoodstarz, the Federation, Traxamillion, E-40, hell yes. Ice Cube, NWA, Westside Connection, bow down when you come to our town. Madvillain, though Doom is apparently an asshole. Oukast and Goodie Mob and the Dungeon Family. Camp Lo. Saul Williams dropped that album with Trent Reznor that is really the best thing Reznor's done in a decade. Missy and Timbaland. Snoop Dogg, and the Dogg Pound - why does nobody talk about the Dogg Pound anymore? And Beanie Sigel and Freeway are never going to be as well known as they deserve either. Papoose kills the mixtape game. David david david david Banner. Love for Kanye, even though I want to kick him in the balls for making something as bad as 808s and Heartbreak. The U.N. out in Long Island. T.I. the King. Rakim the God. Cannibal Ox and dOSEONE when I want to get weird. Big Daddy Kane. Public Enemy, what's the name of my DJ, London? Black Milk repping Detroit. Got to see Grandmaster Flash spin a DJ set one summer night in LA. Nate Dogg, king of the hook! The Clipse.
And, of course, the John Coltrane of the MPC, J Dilla. Rest in peace.

Haha. I know that dude. He lives in Milwaukee. Has he ever been out to Alaska? I know he gets around.
He actually was up here really recently. Those were some really sick shows. Rode in the car with him and a couple of other people in my band on the way back from the Fairbanks shows. He's a really fun guy for road trips.

Del the funky homosapien is pretty fun especially when combined with The Gorillaz. But really The Gorillaz is the closest thing I've ever bought as far as hip hop/rap goes.
You should check out Jurassic 5, I think you might like them.

PumpkinPieces - I am of the opinion that nobody should check out Jurassic 5, ever.
The hip-hop in Gorillaz is a pretty even split between old school and weird indie. I'd suggest Cannibal Ox, cLOUDDEAD, and Subtle for the later and De La Soul (Three Feet High And Rising) and the Pharcyde (Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde) for the later. Also, J Dilla's Donuts.

Cannibal Ox is about the only hip hop/rap group I've gotten into as of late.
I saw they were already mentioned, but it was along with like 70 other artists, figured they deserved a more independent shout out.

Beastie Boys are my favourite. Suits me, cos I'm young & useless. Love the sounds that the Beasties make on their records, also seen some cool clips of them playing hardcore punk even in the recent years.
As a suburban kid it was mostly Cypress Hill, NWA, Dre etc. but these days I don't listen to them that much.
