They didn't move on to boogies until Superunknown.

I picked up a VTM60 about a month ago.......

The tone is real good....sorta raw....sorta in your face......very much that marshall style tone with many options.
The bass isn't huge, but still very full and ballsy.

People talk about them being crazy loud, but I have yet to get that feeling from mine.
Sure it's loud, but not out of the ordinary really... :idk:
I've wondered if something was wrong with it.......or need to be biased (or modded to achieve proper bias).
Frankly, I bought it, tested it out at home, and gigged with it the next day........I had the volume around 11 o'clock.....I suppose I could have just cranked it more.

The low input cranked isn't all that loud, and plugging into the high side and using the comp dip switch on the gain channel really reduces the volume too.

Overall, :idk:

I bought a VTM 120 the other day and recieved it last week. Fucking awesome high gain amp. The mod switches are fucking rad. TYhe built in compression and addition mod switches for the low end enhancement is really cool. I tune to A standard and the amp by it self makes the entire hosue shake. When I use it in conjunction with my Marshall SLP 100 watter it is fucking unreal. Peavey needs to bring this amp back and make it exactly like the original. I know they would fuck it up like they did with the new butcher but I am tempted to write them and tell them they need to make this happen and not fucking cut corners and do moronic shit.

Looks like I'm gonna have to find me a VTM when I get around to buying an actual amp later this year....

Besides volume level, what are the tonal differences between the 120 and the 60? Sorry if this seems like a n00b question, but I've only owned solid state gear so tube behavior remains a mystery to me.

Also, how does the Triumph 120 compare?

The 120 will be about 3-4 dB louder. Also, it will have more clean headroom, i.e. the power tubes will saturate and overdrive less as you crank the post gain.

in general, higher wattage tube amps will obviously be a bit louder, and have more clean headroom, which means not only can it stay cleaner for higher volumes, but you will have more low end content at any volume (due to the higher power needed to push those low frequencies) than their lower wattage counterparts.
