I've really never played a fuzz I don't like.

...and sometimes it's fun to sound like zeppelin and barrett! (not always of course!)

Bassy, high gain, saturated, loud.
These are things I love.

I will forever be a child of the big muff tonal family. I've had my NYC muff since I was 15 and its been an integral part of my sound ever since. It just makes the sounds that make me happy. :)

I've also got a hyperion/ruiner clone pedal called the Hyperuin on board that can do what the muff does with alot more presence. It has a starve knob that i leave on all the time when i want normal muff territory, but i turn off the starve when i want to do solos to let the Hyperion side do its thaaaaang.

And i still have my old muff on board as a low gain treble fuzz along with some glitchyer fuzzes. :joy:

I love allllllllllllll fuzz, but I definitely go through phases. Right now, I'm on a huge Buzzaround kick - I have a clone built by Rockness Monster that was modded by LaoWiz to take a regular Boss adaptor. It always sounded good, but I swear it sounds way better since LaoWiz tweaked it - it used to go all splatty on bass, and while it's definitely not a low-end machine, the sound has significantly opened up. Or maybe I'm just finally using it right!

The Green Russian Big Muff was my first fuzz love, and lately I've been satisfying that need with my Musket.

And then there's the Brassmaster (or B:assmaster, since I have the Malekko). And the Gnomeratron. And the Tone Machine. And the Rat. And the Dr. Freakenstein. And and and and and...
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Bass: brassmaster type fuzz, and I've been loving the HM-2 I bought recgently as a boost/overdrive type sound. I also like muff.

Guitar: muff muff muff. I have a v4 op amp that I love. I kind of want a clone built so I can use the og less to preserve its life.....

I have a tricked out ssstampede and rat clone being built so we'll see where I'm at in a month or so.

cant say ive tried alot of varieties, but based on my limited exposure and what ive heard on records at least, the fuzz tone thats consistently pleasing to me (even if i dont actually like the song its on) would probably be from some sort of muff

Rational thinking people? You do remember what forum you're on, right? We haven't had any of THOSE here in a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry long time. :p

I heard that if you impale yourself on a Dimebag guitar, you'll get 72 fuzzes in the afterlife.

I like some subtley in fuzz. Best thing about the Zoom Ultra Fuzz is not the howling self oscillation put the lower gain textures that are paradoxically clean and fuzzy at once. One of my fave pedals is the Joe Gore "Beef Dynamic Overdrive" which is a Fuzz Face-based circuit that goes from a clear sounding boost to an edgy fuzz based on your pick attack -- sounds more Joy Division than Hendrix to me and crazy enough it exaggerates the tonal difference of the pickup selector. It's about as close as thing get to an "always on" for me.

I am not big on Muffs. Lack of subtelty, lack of mids. I have an Akai clone that sounds like the vintage red and black I used to have sounded, or close enough for how I feel about that sound. I like the HM-2 more for a similar sound.

Of what "family" is the ss/bs TAFM? I'm not big into vintage stuff, so I'm never sure on the proper lineage of fuzz circuits.

My favorites are still the TAFM, Oxide (gated side), original 2nd Voice (PLL?), Blarg-o-tron-o-tron (PWM) and Dimehead PLL. I guess I like my fuzz nasty/8-bit sounding but in a very controlled way, if that makes sense.
