Looks rad, so far!

I'm very jealous that you know someone with a shop..... I'm so tired of working on guitars with ghetto-ass home tools.

Craigslist is your friend. Not all the time, but you'd be suprised what will pop up for cheap just because people want more space in the garage. I surf "tools" and set a price limit of $50

All right! There's been absolutely zero progress since the last update, but I'm bumping this shizz because we might get to work on it this weekend, and I need to give myself an extra push to make sure it happens. MUST. WORK. ON. BASS.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

All right!

So today was spent on contouring the back... really, just the area of the back that my ribs will rest against when my arm goes over the front of the bass. The front's gonna be pretty flat, with a small round on the edge (like a Ric). The back-side edge will be bigger/rounder (like a jazz), but both will probably be done with a router.

For this, though, first I took a bunch of material off the body with a disc sander in Decibill's garage:

Then, once I had that roughed out, and established that I had managed to keep all of my fingers in one piece, it was down to the workshop for rasping, sanding, sanding, sanding and more sanding.

By the time we were done 3-some hours later, that thing was as smooth as a very smooth thing indeed. SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH. In fact, I don't think that picture above is even the final product. It got EVEN SMOOTHER. Whoa.

Huge props as always to Decibill for putting up with my ridiculous comments, distractions and questions.

I know this might not seem like a huge step, but when holding it, the body totally feels like an instrument now. Progress is slow, but it's happening!

I should hope so. I'd be worried if it didn't.

It looks like an instrument too.

I think the real questions are:

Does it smell like an instrument?

Does it taste like an instrument?

I was there, and I can in fact confirm that the smell and taste were very instrumenty.
