If it helps, I'm told Tone Lōc tube shouter is pretty good. Same with the 5 series.

Yeah I generally find that to be true.

I have their flanger and it does exactly what I want from a flange. Super whooshy airplane sounds and trebly metallic piercing subtle flange. I haven't tried their dirt, but I do appreciate some of DOD's dirt for filth on the cheapz.

Just scored the SF5 '60s Fuzz' cheap on ebay. Arrived today and it sounds great to me. Thick, crunchy, crusty muff tones for £20. Not sure but I think it might be a different circuit to the FZ5 '60s Fuzz'.

Re: Soundtank 60s Fuzz / Sixties Fuzz. I think they're the same circuit, just a chnage in name. It's very smilar to a Maxon D&S/OD850/OD-9 or something which is/are a Big Muff variant.

I didn't realise until recently that this series was initially made with metal, not plastic, enclosures.

Daphon (aka Chord, etc etc) do a recent/current series or two which MAY include some Soundtank circuits. Maybe built in same factory. One of the series has the same enclosures.

Interesting, so it's a decent board in a shit enclosure and the SF5 and FZ5 are identical. I guess I should rehouse it then. It's a keeper for me.

So I came up on a cheap Ibanez FZ-5 60s fuzz, and quite dig the sound. As noted, it's in the OD-850/Muff realm, but it's not too boomy or anything, so I dig. Of course, the switch was pretty shot out of the box, so that needs to be replaced.

I've read a bunch now about the fact that you CAN mod these to be more like an 850...but my question is, does anyone know what those mods are? And do they reduce noise at all? 'Cause this fucker is noisy. I am considering sending this to someone (don't know who) for switch repair, maybe even a rehouse, and would love to at least reduce the noise level. Any ideas, or should I solicit the DIY forum?

Hey first post here! I'm a fan of the soundtank series! I have the thrashmaster [loosley based on the RAT] the TS-5 [best tubescreamer out there] The TR-5 [killer vintage tremolo] the only tremolo ibanez ever made! I prefer mine to a Demeter tremulator, Joyo, and EA tremolo that I own.
But my best kept secret is the AW-5 auto wah. Nothing but terrible reviews out there but I currently have a 75' MXR envelope filter and a Boss FT-2 and the ibanez is on the board! Nails that 'Garcia/311 kinda thing. Its also got the same optical circuit as the old WH-10 wah. So you people keep on hating the soundtanks ... please!

I also had the fuzz and wish I never sold it, looking for another one...

Welcome to the board. I agree that as far as tubescreamers go, the TS-5 is pretty good. Would like to try out a thrashmaster. Never knew it was Rat-like.

Yeah I have the Thrashmetal as well, pretty much a Rat but with a 4558 chip and an active tone control.

There's a really cool schematic floating around the web with each section of the circuit shadde a different color.
