When I was a kid, Boss were the serious ones, with Ibanez a close second fiddle. DOD were suspect and people didn't take them that seriously. The only other thing that I saw much of at stores were Crybabies.

Some of them are good, some are bad, just like every other large company
None of them feel cheap though, in those heavy ass metal enclosures.
...and aren't they one of the only ones made in the good ol' US of A?

Yeah! That first series was totally all USA made.
I remember my first DOD. $20 Thrashmaster. Dude shipped it in just a little bubble mailer without anything else and it made it just fine. Built absolutely like a tank

I dunno. The envelope filter I had DOD some hunk of shit model, sounded, looked, and felt like crap to me? It's the same one Flea uses apparently. I've tried some of their other shit in GC on occasion and would actually prefer a Boss pedal over their stuff. That's just me. I don't like them. Ugly, smelly, butt.

Yea, they were the red-headed stepchild when you weren't even let into the garage with the band, still hacking away in the bedroom when the college roommate was away.
And you had the Boss catalog at hand wishing you'd gotten those instead.
(Which thankfully, I did - my first digital effect was a Boss PS-2 that cost the then princely sum of about $550 if I take minimum wage then v. now and the price it sold for new).
And it was worth every damn penny, just for 2s of actually usable delay.

Well, tell us how you really feel.
Personally, I've always dug their flangers and choruses, I think they slay the Boss equivalents, especially the flangers. I personally think the Boss flangers sound meh-er.
