Yeah I'm about to build up a Multiplex this weekend as well!

Also, about the Mushroom Echo- I've got one with an FX loop built in, its a pretty cool delay and I like the style of the repeats as well. In contrast to the DirgeDweller it's a little brighter and less washy, but still sounds awesome. I modded mine so that the photo eye is on a footswitch instead of a toggle which is easier

They're super cool! Have you already built/tried one skully?
NeroJazz wrote:Totally worth trying out - but remember to adjust gain and modulation internally to suit your rig!
This. I hear it'll do an all out fuzz sound too if you max gain but I've yet to try that....

ILF member LaoWiz built mine but it's a kit by 1776 effects, super cool tape echo style delay. 3 modes to emulate a Binson, Roland Space Echo, and Echoplex plus a momentary stomp to increase and decrease tape speed for the whacked out delay. I like it, lots, sounds fantasic!

It really is! Dual delays, multiple modes, goes mild to bordeine Clari(not) weird. Under $200 as well. :thumb:

I Love my EQD Disaster transport like no one should love an inanimate object. Don't be afraid of the oscillation and drive. It sounds so great. Sometimes I will run it into overdrive or an overdriven amp because the repeats just sound so damn good overdriven.

After talking to Skully... about my beef with the Wampler and my ideas about stuff... I decided that as soon as i can (HOPEFULLY ASAP), I'll start with getting an El Capistan instead of the Wampler... it's a start

to be honest, i don't know why i didn't go that way immediately... I've been wondering about the El Cap ever since i joined :D

sorry about making this mess of a thread, i realize now it was too general i guess... but LOTS of amazing suggestions that i'm sure i'll come back to in the future :) feel free to comment more, this is just like an update of the way i'm gonna start this :)

for example it's a great way to get a nice modulated delay that can do all the shit i love and has a non-problematic tap tempo :)

I think you'll be happy with the El Cap, I've had mine since just after they came out and it's never left my board. I think it sounds just fantastic, and lots of different sounds to be had.

I think the Empress Tape delay is prob too bright for you, I love it but I don't think I would say it's very tapey. You can get it very dark and modulated though. IFLDD has a lot of character. Echorec seems really cool to me. +1 on the Subdecay being awesome, I'd still have it if the ILFDD didn't exist

I don't think it will but I hope the El Capistan works for you. :( :)

The El Cap a ridiculously well thought out pedal. Worth every $.
Tap tempo, expression control of any knob, built in spring reverb, momentary oscillation, looping.... plus it's really easy to control the delay time knob with your foot.
The 'character' isn't for everyone but you never know, it's definitely worth a shot. Hope it works out!

yeah, the possibilities seem really awesome it seems it has everything i need and want... amazing modulation, tap (even subdivisions), multihead, sound on sound... plus it has this thing with the hidden functions that quite works for my "set and forget" mentality - i like to have lots of controls that i never have to tweak again after finding he right sound

I never un-modulate my delays by the way

i got real excited about getting an el cap at one point a little while back. i had been pretty intrigued by them for a very long time. but, to be honest, when i finally got the chance to play one i was disappointed. great feature set and it is a cool pedal. in theory it was going to do everything i needed. but i just couldn't gel with it. it seemed a little sterile or lacking in something i wanted to feel. i played it for a while in the store, and to be fair that's not a full picture of the pedal. i was new to figuring it out and it wasn't on gear i was that tight with. maybe if i had brought it home i would have fallen in love. but i just felt nothing while playing it, the hollow shell of a man. dead inside. i wanted so badly to love it, but i couldn't convince myself. i also tried the ghost disaster that day and it brought me back. i was just so inspired playing it and it showed me how to love again. i left the store with it and have been so happy ever since.

Completely agree. On paper the el cap sounds perfect, but there's just something off with it... the delays just sound kind of flat and lifeless to me. Sure you can add some grit, warble, and reverb to it, but that all would have sounded so much better if the fundamental delay sound had been better.

That's exactly my point as well.
In theory the Timeline (the dTape mode on there is based on the Capistan) seemed great, in practice it turned out to be a bit all of nothing for me because in my opinion the pedal itself just sounds a bit too bland if you're used to really characterful delays and that's what you're trying to get.
All these possibilities in modulation but in the end do you hear it, I don't know, the only thing I know is that it never sounds as good as my Deluxe Memory Man to me.
Honestly I'd much much rather get a good PT2399 delay with modulation than any Strymon stuff, because those seem much more natural and organic sounding (the Death By Audio Echo Dream 2 is beautiful for instance).
