the GAS is strong with this video, but for me, with the guitar in particular

I had one and it was top shelf.

I went thru three exchanges to get a decent one. First one had an unusable neck angle, second had a split in the body starting from the f-hole, even the final keeper had a dead middle pickup which Yamaha quickly replaced. Finish was good on all, looked real pretty, but they were pretty hit or miss in terms of build quality. I'd say you got lucky.

Damn, that sucks........I must have been lucky, because mine was flawless.
Sorta regret selling it.

I modeled my EGC Chessie after that TVL Yamaha honestly only with Mustang Special switching options. Aesthetics lean heavily towards that Yamaha tho, trying to make it into the guitar I always wished it was.
