like, i don't know. i know it's full of dickery and rude but every time someone talks about something EHX has coming out i can't help it. my first reaction is FUCK EHX. they're just......... they're just so BAD.

No hate from me, but then again, the most used EHX pedal on my board is the Switchblade I got in a trade I COULD perhaps complain about ABY box not having led lights indicating which channel is on but then again, if I don't notice the difference I get what I deserve. Or perhaps some hater is now making as remark about how being passive is the only reason that makes it reliable

I only have tried a handful of their pedals (out of the huge production line) but I liked them all just fine. Even the RTG random tone generator that isn't actually rondom, but for the price... it still works as a nice metronome and a practice buddy at home. And I like the EHX pedals my band mates use, a lot: Small Clone, Small Stone, Electric Mistress and who knows what.

I generally hate the way their XO line looks, and some of their pedals have a center positive power jack, but their big box stuff... SIGN ME UP. BIG KNOBS AND SHINY SCIENCE BOXES MAKE ME FEEL LIKE MADE SCIENTIST GUY. And the DMM is such a perfect delay, I won't say its the best, but it is perfect. And I used the English Muff'n for years and it never failed me.

But yeah, their xo line makes me cringe, I like pretty boxes or boxes that look like something found out of a cheesy sci-fi movie, or destruction devices... EHX doesn't do any of that anymore. That hot tubes looks okay though.

As much as I love the big boxes, the XO line does make more sense as far as space goes. I just wish they didn't use such butt-ugly artwork and those shitty knobs that are nearly impossible to remove.
I don't really have anything against EHX but I've sold pretty much every one of their pedals I've bought and the ones I do have aren't going on the board anytime soon.
The Ring Thing and Freeze are cool, though.

Ive yet to have any EHX stuff break honestly but Ive had plenty of minor issues with the XO and Nano stuff.

The big box stuff looks sexy as fuck IMO and some of those sound soooo very good. I feel like DBA and our very own LaoWiz tapped that vintage EHX vibe and cosmetically speaking, those are some of my favorite aesthetics on any pedal ever. Like a 60's-70's era NASA/Star Wars vibe, good by me.

Since You brought LaoWiz up, if the EHX boxes just don't appeal to people, that should make a great excuse for kick ass pimp rehousing projects.

Handmade "Big Box" EHX pedals rule. Each unit is different, but not all sound special.
The ones that do are LEGENDARY and will not be denied. Especially those made up until 1984 and then in Russia (to a lesser extent) in the 90s.

IMO it's the transition to mass production and cost compromise that has resulted in a loss of identity and general mediocrity.
There are exceptions...the POG & Freeze/Superego are all special tools in their own right.

But the Tone Tattoo? c'mon...

EHX has their hits and misses. i really love my SMM/H. i'd love it more if it had separate clean & effect volume knobs, but i only use it for home looping/fucking around anyway, so it's fine.

lol. i don't hate it like i want to punch Weird Santa Guy in the face or anything.

i hate the way they look, i hate the way 92% of them i've tried have sounded, i hate that they have an interesting idea then mudhole rape it by adding some stupid other section or design that makes it look like NO ONE there has ever played out, i hate seeing friends waste their money on Bass Big Muffs because the guy at GC told them how awesome it was, when i first was trying to like them i had at least half of the ones i owned fail at shows....

they just SUCK. and they a lot times put out stuff that has the potential to be really cool. one of the few times they did it right was putting out the Freeze, which they kept simple and focused on a box that did one thing really well, then they put out a Big Chubbly version that had SMART upgrades with the effects loop and the auto grab setting.

so rare it stands out. SOMEONE DID A SMART THING.
