I've done quite a lot of hiking in New South Wales, All around the Snowy Mountains, Morton National Park, Far South Coast Light to Light and around Kianinny bay and Eden, The Coast Track from Bundeena right down along the escarpment to Mt. Keira. It's a gorgeous part of the world, I'll dig up some photos.

i love this thread. i pretty much don't take pictures when i'm hiking, so i don't have anything easy to post. but i love hiking and backpacking, and more recently water based travel, like canoeing or rafting, and i do it all the time. along with music related stuff, one of my favorite ways to spend time is getting out in nature. thanks for the pics. perhaps i'll have some to share sometime.

Id love to go, but theres no really any place around here i can get to for a day hike or weekend thing. I cant miss work and go somewhere nice. IM IN Connecticut. If anyone hasd some tips on where to hike/day camp ill take em.
Where in CT are you? Most of the decent hiking is in the NW corner of the state. I've hiked Mt Frissell (right on the tri-corner between MA, CT and NY) and did a decent length section of the Appalachian Trail that leads up to Bear Mountain. It was a really nice hike.
Agreed, NW corner is great. Back in the day, I did some camping up in NE corner and had fun up over by Rhode Island. Isn't there any hiking in New Milford? I grew up at the foot of Sleeping Giant, north of New Haven. You can do a day hike there and be like 2 minutes from this place:
http://briansguitars.comAlso, those of us who live in the west now have a different sense of time in cars. I know plenty of people out here who will get up at 5:00am to get some place amazing, hike all day and either stay overnight or head home. It takes hours to get across states here. In 3 hours, I can be partially across Oregon. In 3 hours, you can cross 3 or 4 state lines and be in Mass, Vermont, New Hampshire, Upstate NY or Penn…hell, 4.5 and you are on the Cape. You may need to just need to expand your radius. It's a given out here that even close in hikes are going to likely be pushing 2 hours if you don't want to be doing the same old same old.
When I was 18, my sister gave me a hiking Connecticut book that EMS had. There has to be a book or two out there?
