if this thing is controlled with bluetooth how long before someone figures out how to hack it?
I am waiting for some major artist to be on stage trying to play a song while some kid in the audience is retuning his guitar via cell phone

ALL of my tube gear absolutely hates being anywhere near Bluetooth devices of any kind.
And pickups are sensitive to it as well...especially around something like a computer mouse.
Not to contribute to the stigma of guitarists resisting change...but on paper this seems like a recipe for ongoing, major headaches.
Cool concept about the tunings, though...I honestly hope they can pull it off, because it's obv impractical for most people (non millionaires) to use alternate tunings in the form of multiple guitars...when playing live, anyway...

Roland beat them to the punch with the vGuitar system a decade ago and has continued to refine it.
And it's not tied to actually having It retune itself (which leads to setup issues and extreme limitations on what works there) or even physically possible stuff.
And by comparison it's affordable (and lets you play anything you want).

I just love how their idea of marketing is making up problems that don't actually exist.
One of the things the Enlightenment Philosophers taught us is that there's no point in discussing the consequences of a cause that doesn't exist. It's stupid, at best futile.
Guess you could say Gibson's marketing is true to vintage specs

Yeah, Roland's system and Line6's as well was a lot better in terms of mechanical effect to the guitar setup. You had so much more possibility on hand that didn't involve fucking up your guitar entirely.

The Line6 one doesn't hold a ton of interest as it ties you to their particular guitars, and is very, very limited in options - set tunings/emulations bore me to tears.
If I can't tweak it, not paying more than toy amounts for it.

Yeah the whole onboard effects thing is no revelation. I've come across Japanese LP Knock Offs (made by Electra as well) in pawnshops that had receptacles for transistor based effects modules.
Is Gibson floundering that much. Are so few people buying new Gibsons that they have to invent nonexistent issues to turn a profit?
I applaud Gibson for trying to be forward thinking,...but this seems to fall flat on it's face. Their efforts seem to create mostly backlash. Oh LPs are too heavy so let's "Weight Relieve" (chamber) them. But one of the defining characteristics of sustain (at least that's what I'm gathering from a general nonacceptance of chambered LPs) and the mojo of a Log Paul is lost; when a perfectly acceptable solution was to use a comfortable wide strap.
Now they are telling us that pedals and amps are replaceable with Ones and Zeros built into a $5000 guitar. Sorry but that dog is not gonna hunt; at least not for me.
Speaking for myself; as musicians we tend to favor outdated technologies, even in modern times. We generally want tubes and transistors,...not ones and zeros. Save the modern shit and the LEDs and the Bluetooth for my Television and my phone and leave my tried and true technologies alone.

A fucking men. every time, everytime some suggests to me selling my 8+tube amps and closet full of pedals for a modeler; a blood vessel silently bursts in my brain. if i thought it sounded better wtf would have i spent thousands more on shit that takes up wayyy more space. there is a reason why 99% of people use tube amps and pedals, and its not cause we are all crazy.

Well, it kinda is. Any non-musician would have to be pretty askew to be like "90% of the distance is NOT CLOSE ENOUGH!" It's only musicians who think like that.
Good crazy, though.

I think most musicians are 90% or more crazy; the inability to do basic patch editing is like watching my grandparents when the VCR came out.
A *lot* of the modellers out there are junk, bur t even they can get good sounds, even if they're not exactly what they're emulating (and after 30 years of speaker destruction, component drift, individual variances, etc. I wouldn't expect theem to be). Only thing I haven't seen done right yet are some of the fuzz. and wacky stuff, probably just because the money isn't there to do them.
Doesn't stop me from using both though. I like stuffs that sounds like stuffs I like, don't care who/where/whether there's tubes or faux mojo involved.
