Everything empress does is stupidly good so I'm going to wait until I play one before passing judgement. Also, the empress fuzz is brutal.

I'm glad someone else saw that. Hopefully it's just a prototype with the misprint.

look at the number of options vs. price difference though. even if I didn't have a VMSD I'd still go for that of the two.

I think its definitely worth it. It seems like the tape version of the diamond delay.
For me, the reason to get the el cap was TAPE CRINKLE. the only pedal I know of that does and it is awesome. But i got frustrated with the secondary knob functions and I didnt use stereo and wanted an effects loop. so i bailed. But i still miss that tape crinkle more than anything.

I like fact that the interface is different to strymon. There is no point in empress ( or anyone else) trying to best strymon at being strymon, because they are extremely good at what they do. In the end, the el cap, this thing, to a certain extant even mega boxes like the time factor, aren't all that well suited to quickly changing presets in a live context. That's the the trade off between small, essentially modular pedals and larger, more preset friendly things like an M9.
I for one am totally Neolithic when it comes to pedals, so the more a digital wonder box looks like a fuzz box with knobs with simple functions I'm happy. Lots of knobs is good, lots of parameters is good (like The Elements for example), but knobs that change function depending on this that and the other scare me - so more traditional interfaces like this appeal to me. But for dudes who both have a brain AND use it, you've got the choice to roll with eventide or strymon.
I have the distinct feeling this post doesn't make sense, but I can't be bothered sorting its shit out haha

you know what pisses me off? they're all unique... El Cap is unique, my Wampler is unique, this will be unique (in the same way the VMSD is unique)... i'm talking about the features and possible tape sounds...
the only scenario i really see happening is buying this some day to complement my Wampler

the tap tempo for dotted eights into it will make multiheads super easy and i can still have Wampler's washy walls of delay
plus fuck... two tape delays stacked together? Old tape into wampler's dubby cranked Tone? this shall be gooooood

I feel you tons on that sentiment.

Instead of leaving off some features so the tape delay doesn't step on the toes of the superdelay, empress should have pimped the tape delay out and taken this as a sign that it's time to release a mind-melting new version of the superdelay.

The tape crinkle is pretty awesome. I wish it could get crinklier though...I always max out the knob and still want more

I somehow missed this and decided to be a necro. This thing is pretty supreme. I'm on the hunt for delay and was considering getting something wild, the lofi or particle, but now this thing does all the wild things I've loved in songs and is a pretty standard delay sound. The holding the tempo down to stop repeats is brilliant, the infinite non-oscillating repeats, and then oscillate. I had a DL8 that would repeat without oscillating but had to bend down to use the feature. I can just save it as a preset on this baby!

All this pedal did was make me want an El Cap even more. And I already have a Timeline.
What the fuck.
