I feel like this is unequivocally their most intriguing album - thought I was alone there!

It's not my favorite album of theirs anymore, Wavering Radiant took over that crown. But Panopticon was definitely the one that caused a shift in my musical tastes/style.

That's because you're a Philistine. :p

Anyway, off the top of my head I can think of:

Sleep's Dopesmoker
Sleep's Holy Mountain
Peter Tosh's Equal Rights
Hendrix's Band of Gypsys
the Allman Brothers At Filmore East
Cream's Disraeli Gears
Osibisa's Woyaya
Sonic Youth's Goo
Minor Threat's S/T
Bad Brains's S/T
The Doors's S/T
The Dead's Live/Dead
The Stones's early singles ( 64-69 I think, collected onto one LP, but I can't recall the title)
Kyuss's Blues For The Red Sun (and later Welcome to Sky Valley)
Hot Tuna's first record (and Jefferson Airplane's Crown of Creation)
Tool's Lateralus
Isis's Oceanic
Mothers of Invention's Freak Out, Absolutely Free and We're Only In It For The Money
The Pixies' Come On Pilgrim
The Velvet Underground And Nico.
DJ Shadow's Endtroducing

Those are the records I can remember listening to and going "woah, I like this."
good deals are here.

You are definitely not alone, I love the shit out of that album. Was a contender for my list.

YES! DJ Shadow fucking rules!!!!!!!!! As does Isis!!

Probably the ones that got me into playing were

Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral
Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Helmet Aftertaste

LOTS more though.

Euromasters - Alles naar de klote
Tool - Aenima
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile

Those are the ones that started it.

These three happened at very different intervals in my life;

Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse - Skinny Puppy
Bullhead - Melvins
Dante's Disneyland Inferno - Sun City Girls

These three fought hard with these other three: Songs About Fucking, Locust Abortion Technician, Key Lime Pie.

Curiously all my winners have some sort of connection to the Pacific north west, makes me wonder if the area informs the artist and/or listener, or if I just like my gran faloons.

Shit, forgot about that one.

Seriously, best production on a record ever.
