I need a reverb box since I am just using the amp verb on my Hot Rod DeVille. I am looking real close at the Mr. Black Eterna, or maybe a Dr. Scientist RRR since I have a birthday this week. I don't really have a lot of experience with verb units, this is my first true pedal board. Has anyone found a good verb with reverse that isn't stupid expensive or rack mounted? That was always an option I was interested it, but will probably go without.

I know the digitech hardwire reverb has a reverse option. I've never personally tried one but it has attained kvlt status for some as a beast of verb.
Fuzz, reverb, delay.

I personally think the RRR is the best option in terms of sound and variety and size with the Mini version available now days. Really hard to beat that one if you can deal with lack of a spring mode. The plates get real close to spring imo tho.

The Mr. Black Eterna is kinda cool if you like shimmer verb but it sounds kinda bright to me. Also, there's only so much use for shimmer, gets old fast.

misterstomach wrote:if you're playing with a bunch of fuzz, i can't recommend anything more than the ghost echo. sounds so good with dirt. and without. such a killer pedal. there's a lot of great reverb out there, but i think this is the one that has really nailed it with dirt>reverb.

The Ghost Echo is the only other verb beyond the RRR that really blew my mind. Def gets along with dirt and fuzz with ease, the attack control is super useful in that application. Agreed, sounds fantastic all on it's own as well.

I've heard some complain about a static noise when they hit it hard with fuzz or dirt but I've had zero issues with mine.

I already have reverb on my amp... and it sound amazing.
I always have a bit of reverb on in my setup.
I'm thinking about getting the RRR to add some ambiant reverb.
Would that sound great... adding reverb over an alredy reverbering amp?

Yeah Syl, verb + verb is super cool but the RRR will give you so many more options than just the amp. I don't think you'd regret it one bit. The interaction of the level and mix control on the RRR is a perfect design. With those controls, you can get some very useable, insanely ambient sounds that don't get lost. Boost mix, boost level, all good. :thumb:

Random note: I should add that I've never owned the Bluesky so all my reccommendations exclude it for that simple reason.

And I agree with Nick, plate = win. I'm a real sucker for a nice hall setting too...

I saw a dude play a set in Richmond only using plate reverb units he made himself. He had a miniature 12" plate unit that he made using 2 contact mics on a sheet of aluminum that was suspended by chains to a wooden chasis, and then had two toothbrush motors that were controlled wirelessly through his iPad to control the velocity of the spinning of the motors which created this awesome really ambient droning thunder in a deep deep cave. His other unit was about 6 feet tall and used the same technology. It was AWESOME.

I have one of these and while they sound incredible, they don't enter the insane surf style spring sounds achieved by the Fender tanks. Most likely due to the small size of the Vanamps, thus shorter springs. I'm thinking you can special order it with a long set of springs tho and that would def get you where you wanna be.

This. Love mine but still kinda GASsing for one of the Fender 63 RIs. Anyone try the Demeter Reverbulator?
