Dark Barn wrote:I like the graphic too, but the design is far from fancy. And the controls are on the opposite side of the universe from fancy.
But that's the good news, I far prefer a rectangular box (bonus points for top mounted jacks) than something fancy.
Like these things

are fancy beyond better judgement.

Function over form everytime for me, but if you can make it pretty then hell yes!

Yep, I have a Demonizer somewhere - I bought it for DI recording and it sounds great, except that at anything above clean it buzzes like swarm of Boss HM-2s running into each other. Hate factor is high. But yep, the enclosure is fucking stupid. I opened it up and they do actually use pretty much all of the space inside it, so I guess it's justified, but for me custom enclosures, at least for small scale builders, is a waste of money.

I am always shocked by how many companies put out products that have no sense of the visual impact of their stuff. ie, stuff that looks total ass. Everything Ryan and Tanya have put out is rad, why? Cos they rule and think things through. Everything Tortuga has put out looks shit. Why? Because they are a bunch of jokers who think they have a good sense for design when in reality their time would be better spent talking about Dale Earnhardt Jr drinking whatever crap it is NASCAR fans drink.
This goes for most pedal companies, especially pedal manufacturers specialising in 11 different low to mid gain overdrives.

Um... On topic... I too lust over pedals that look rad. I don't really like how any Walrus Audio stuff sounds, but I want to buy their pedals. Haha!

Those Tortuga boxes are both hideous and poorly labeled. The first rule of functional graphic design is to make your design readable and easily understood. I know exactly what every knob and switch on a Dr. Scientist or EarthQuaker pedal does, but I couldn't tell you for the life of me what the "12 Year" knob does.

As much as I hate to admit it, the Klon might have the sexiest custom enclosure ever:

those tortuga's piss me off. they're unbelievably gimmicky to the point where they look unusable. Do people actually buy them? I'd be embarrassed to have one on my board

I always enjoyed the look of EHX's older pedals

The original POG was so much fun to play but I never found a good place for it while recording. I want to try a POG 2 though

Yeah, the old EHX boxes were super. The first Microsynth was also great - had this fantastic Space Odyssey look about it. Chanks, that video was great. The song was pretentious rubbish but the video ruled. And the Klon enclosure is great.

I actually like that song. Pretentious or not, it has an endearing quality to it. Anyway, I thought it was appropriate.

makes me think of Weeds, since it was the theme for most of the show.

Hells yeah. The BMS is definitely one of my 2 or 3 favorite pedals of all time, and I think it may be one of the coolest looking pedals on earth. It's hard to describe, but it's like retro-futuristic:

Love that retrofuturistic sort of design style. Pedals need to make me feel like im flying a space shuttle in a 70s sci fi flick.

EDIT: just saw bigchiefs retrofuturistic remark after the fact. Obviously i agree entirely...

That's basically what it is. The BMS, the POG, and a couple of those older folder sheet-metal EHX pedals always make me feel like I'm on the set of some 70s sci fi movie. And I guess that's why I carry their water.
