They did a series called "Raw Power," for a bit that was SGs and Les Pauls in all maple with cool colours (and I think stupidly hot pickups).

If I recall, they were one of Gibson's earlier tries at cheaper guitars, coming in at $899.

I played one raw power les paul, and it was hands down the worst guitar I've ever played.
Ever.
I doubt all of them were that bad, but I was astonished by how horrid the one I played was. The pickups sounded like mud, the finish was inconsistent, and the neck was something else...
It was too bad to use as firewood. The only use for it I think would be a paddle, to row yourself into the middle of nowhere to starve to death as punishment for buying such a bad guitar.
No.

I actually like Gibson too. I was pretty sad.

That shit on the last page looks pretty nice actually, the SG in particular is hot.

The only Gibson I like is the Firebird.
I don't feel at ease with Gibson... something with the scale I guess.

Same here. Though I can't even gel with the Firebird. The 24.75" scale just messes me up too much. I can go between 25.5" and 24" just fine, but on 24.75" I end up mis-fretting continually.

I'm not big on Gibson neck profiles either. :idk:

I'm a Fender whore. I was looking at a Les Paul standard for some different tones about a month ago, but I just could't find something I liked. Looks like I'm sticking with Fender for a while

i see nothing wrong with this--i'm sure it plays well and has great tones. rics are difficult to set up and can be a challenge to play for large hands. gibson did an sg 12 as well, but it likely has neck dive issues.

i wish fender would reissue their XII.

I played a raw power SG once. it was awful. most uncomfortable guitar I've ever played.

I might be alone on this opinion, but that is one of the fugliest guitars I've ever seen.

So I'm the only one that noticed they said paying tribute to "50s era SGs" even though the SG wasn't introduced until 1961?

Seems like a joke to me

I'm with you. I'm a huge fan of the look and sound of an SG, but I don't think I'd ever be able to own a stock one, just because of that neck profile and scale. I'd have to be a weirdo and put a warmoth strat contour/scale neck with an SG headstock on it, just so I could feel at home.
