Apparently the Princeton circuit carries over more from the tweed circuits than any other blackface amp - the breakup is "browner", for lack of a better term. They also have the grooviest trem of any blackface Fender. However, in the 6V6-powered blackface realm, Gibson players usually prefer a Deluxe.
You've dealt with some of the more boutique options too right?
Any recommendations on which Princeton as best bang for the buck?

All anyone really "needs" is a fuzzbox anyway. Everything else is just dicking around.
I don't think I want the jangly blackface sound, to be completely honest. Something more raunchy when it breaks up. That's why I was thinking of the older small dept. store combos -- the Supros and such. Dunno whether I'll be lucky enough to ever find one, though. I don't need the clean headroom, either, since my attenuator means that I can dial the amp to whatever volume and take line out or headphones, and it all sounds the same to my ears. So earlier breakup is better in this case.

I've played Fenders, MusicMan (haven't messed with Ampeg reverb, so I may be out of touch) and they don't compare. The reverb on that little beastie is straight up sopping wet mermaid poon. It also get's decently loud, but sounds great at every volume level.
I had one for a brief moment, and am determined to buy one again.
Will try to seek this out. I think Guitar Center has these; just need to hitch a ride there some time. (Gah, car-less.)

I really like the Egnater Tweaker series. So many sounds in it. The series you didn't like was the Renegades, I think. The Tweakers are a blast though. I have one.

Yeah, I haven't tried the tweakers.
The Egnater Rebel (I think?) was way too boxy, fake-sounding, even though it was tube. Hard to describe without an A/B. The Blues Deville I demoed next after it was unreasonably loud and had too much headroom. Also, that was like 2 years ago that I tried them, before settling on the sweet jazz cleans of the Ampeg. I'm picky.
