Re: I FUCKING HATE AUTO FILTERS
Today I tried laying my guitar on an old bass amp and sculpting the feedback with the VCF on my Jealous Heart (with occasional DOD Grunge for kicks). It sounded fucking huge, so I ran some mics to my four-track and managed to fill an entire side of a C60. So rad.

It really shits me when people assume that the desire for a certain piece of equipment is motivated by the cultural detritus that surrounds it. Yes, there are a lot of people that bought old Big Muffs because Billy fucking Corgan used one (digression: I bought a Big Muff because I wanted to sound like Bardo Pond) but there are plenty of people who just happen to like how they sound. I don't have an end goal, in that I'm not trying to emulate any particular musician or realise some sound rattling around in my head - but I've fucked around enough with resonant filters on guitar to know that I enjoy the sound, and the resultant effect that it has on my playing. Furthermore, I don't want to drag around a cumbersome and expensive synthesiser setup to a show when I'm already carting around a guitar, two amps and a backpack full of miscellaneous crap. That's why I'd like a filter in a pedal.

Wot, you actually had a point?
I couldn't exactly understand what you were talking about. So, I couldn't discern that there was really a point to be had. Sorry.

Re: I FUCKING HATE AUTO FILTERS
I'm interested in what you end up getting, estragon. I want a filter for pretty much the same purposes.
Also, for poos and gigs, here is some filter action I like:

I'm pretty sure this is just a wah, but I love how he keeps the sweeping fairly shallow.

I like the notched filter kinda sound that a lot of electro dudes use on bass. And in this track he pretty much throws everything and the kitchen sink through some kind of filtering.
I'd like to see you offer a filter.

manual (non-LFO) and LFO swept filters can do wonderful things to a signal...
want to get a sound like the synth bass on radiohead's "climbing up the walls"? - sweep a LPF manually or with an expression pedal
want to get an old-timey AM radio sound? - BPF with the right setting
stuck wah sounds? - BPF
want to do a really brittle high sweep on a drum loop then drop the beat like pauly D? - sweep a HPF
want to play dub reggae? - LPF
bootsy collins? - envelope controlled filter
METALZ? - wide-band notch filter (ie SCOOPED MIDZ)
phasers, comb filtering, filtering on echos, filtering on drives/fuzzes, etc, etc, etc, etc. ALL FILTERS! maybe not all resonant VCFs, but still filters.
pretty much every electronic musician on the planet uses resonant filters in some way, so if you like ANY electronic music then chances are you've heard a filter being used in a cool or even just utilitarian way.
I'd like to see you offer a filter.

i dunno on guitar, but on bass i love the IE Xerograph too. it does have an envelope follower, but you can plug in an expression pedal and bypass that. i'm with you, i don't like envelopes that much. quak waka waka doesn't do much for me.
I use a regular Xero on guitar. No envelope follower, just expression LPF madness. It sounds rad, although you have to use it with fuzz or distortion before or after or both. On its own on guitar it is anemic, although Taylor says as much in his description of the pedal so it shouldn't be a surprise. I run a Subdecay Proteus before it in case I want some envelope action. Kinda a modular Xero Deluxe
It's one of my most used pedulz. Any time you might use a wah for a longer sweep you can use the Xero.

one of my favorite songs ever and a brilliant video. such a classic and LOTS of resonant filter/spectral filter usage.
if you're lame and don't want to watch the whole thing skip to 4:20 for the start of the song.
fuzz loving bros who want to know how to use filters... crank the volume up and skip directly to 8:10 and wait for the fucking magic. i get goosebumps whenever i listen to that section.
working on some stuff. would like to get something out that isn't dirt.

have you tried the Prometheus Deluxe? i WANT to love that pedal so hard. all the lfo and filter shape options are amazing. i just never clicked with the Subdecay filter sound.
and fuck YEAH Aphex. but i'm sorta with OP. i fucking LOVE filters. i still want a Sherman Filtertank hard even though it's overkill. but i don't like AUTO filters. manual sweeps ftw.

I want more filter pedals with ASDR control. The Octavius Squeezer is basically the only one. And I really do love the OS, but there should be more options out there, at a lower price point.
