That's how I feel about it too.

I have never had one bad experience with John Lyons, and I have sent/trusted him with a few thousand dollars worth of vintage pedals to dissect, and never had an issue. I can understand the frustration with not getting your pedals on time, but it doesn't sound like he "screwed anyone over" or took their money and is partying with it or anything?

My opinion, he became overwhelmed with all of the recent response to his pedals, and what was once a quick project for him became a much longer endeavor, trying to finish multiple pedals at the same time. He should have adjusted his new build times to correspond with his new workload, that I will agree on, but I think he did do the right thing by giving you guys your refunds and should be given credit for that.

i don't know, I just think we're getting a little heated here and making it out to be way more shitty than it really is. :idk:

I could forgive an extended wait time, but unresponsive email communication over several months is a bit unsettling, I've dealt with it before and its just not a good feeling. I totally understand how Basic Audio launched into a more mainstream endaevor over the past year or so, but it's not too hard to shoot off a round of emails every now and again. Also that some pedals came out completely different than what was asked for I could understand as upsetting

He was a jerk when responding to my emails. Bottom line.
Like I said, stuff happens, wait times increase, but no communication and responding to me with an attitude, unacceptable.

Maybe some of the problem is becoming more succesful or something and not knowing how to deal with it.
I am not going to continue to slag him, hopefully this was just a bump in the road for him and he finds his way to manage all aspects of his business effectively.

i called johntues to let him know i had sent two pedals to him. he answered his phone, told me about the power outage. i asked if he wanted me to post on his behalf at the DAM forum etc to let people know his situation, he said yes. i contacted dev through a pm, he did the right thing by posting IMO. since much of the complaining centers around 'lack of communication', i think this thread's intention is good, right?

john has had excellent dealings with many, many people, + his generosity is legendary in the DIY community. i understand the frustration of some of the experiences posted on this thread, but it appears to me ( an outsider for the most part ) to have turned into a bit of a lynch mob type thread. it might be that john's business has evolved past the 'one-off' 'custom order' stage, this may actually be a good and necessary evolution. he is a brilliant designer and builder, these growing pains will soon be behind him.
love you all, love fuzz

OK. So in the future, no one tell your negative dealings with builders. It's too lynch mobby.

I think it's important that people get all sides of the story when it comes to dealing with builders, not just the shiny happy people holding hands bits.

agree, there should always be room for the negative experiences to be reported.

Here is my two cents if it matters because i believe im being disrespected by this guy.
I sent a ehx big muff in for a mod and rehouse as well as a digitech synth wah for a rehouse.this was in fucking november 2011. He did not charge me. I was quoted one month all of a sudden months roll by so i start emailing him. Hes got this excuse or that. Always short always telling me a story.

Then i get that fake email shit (which i find unacceptable like the million other excuses) so im wondering wow is this guy is a weirdo. So in may he sends me a picture of my muff rehouse. Not at all what i wanted. I mean its missing features wrong artwork etc. So he asks for my address and three days later its here and sounds amazing.the weird thing is no money ever exchanged hands nor has he asked me for any. He does respond quickly to my emails but its usually a one liner that frankly bothers me or some excuse.

Anyways as stated the second part of my order is still "being worked on" its been seven months with no end in sight. Im frankly done email tagging with the guy and just want my shit.seeing this thread has pushed me over the edge i want out now.
Time to get an iron guys

Hold on a second, has anyone been ripped off? I didn't read anything through this thread about anyone dealing with any sort of paypal scam going on.

As for the weird emails, he announced a while back he got hacked so lost a bunch of mails and a bunch of people would have received strange emails asked for money that were obviously a scam and nothing to do with John himself. I hope he gets power back soon so he can speak for himself.

To be clear, I was not ripped off.

I also forgot a pretty important detail to my particular situation (which goes beyond the ridiculous lynch mob comparison and poor communication)....

I gave Lyons artwork as my enclosure was going to be completely custom. My photoshop drawing included EVERY possible detail right down to the actual knobs I wanted....

When I finally saw a photo of the enclosure 2 1/2 months later, his basic audio logo was slapped on right in the middle of my artwork. NOT cool at all.

He didn't give me ONE good reason why he decided to put it on, when I had expressly said I didn't want it. I've seen him do tons of custom boxes with no lettering/logos of any kind. To throw your logo on a custom box and not even communicate with the customer, is beyond me.

The artwork was completely agreed upon by both of us.
I spent hours of my time drawing up exactly what I wanted, only to have it be ignored by him. Unbelievable.

Those of us reporting a negative experience are reporting extra long wait times, poor communication from John, not receiving the product as ordered. Definately enought to warrant letting others know about. I am not saying my experience is the defining Basic Audio experience, but it has defined MY experience, John has plenty of satisfied customers. What I am saying is that anyone considering Custom work from John should be aware of mine and several others ordeal.

yah. i did not go through what Patrick did at all. i remember when he got his account hacked, that's not on him. i've had accounts hacked before. it sucks.

again, i'm not trashing the guy. i had one good transaction, and then one frustrating one that we ended up calling off. i'm with Deltz and Excaner. i KNOW smaller businesses have problems sometimes and delays crop up. that's completely understandable. but communication, and then following through on dates quoted would have made a huge difference. i've bought from most of the builders on here, and if stuff comes, it comes up. that's life. it happens.

and again again, i NEVER felt like he was trying to scam me or steal anything. it just felt like someone that was getting behind and not handling it the way i would have preferred.

talking about violence toward him or saying people reporting issues they had is lynch mobb'y is just silly.

To be fair we have been having this conversation privately and chose not too post anything in respect to the builder. It is clear that while nobody has been cheated out of anything, there is definitely something wrong here. I already have a problem with the fact that we are being informed through other members. No official post from the builder or anything.

I see a huge problem with that.
