this doesn't sound like it would last in a live setting.

Ah, isn't this just an Atari-ised version of the Foxrox Zim?

Also she got called out for it being a ripoff of copilot fx. I mean she has no shame and is happy to profit off other peoples work so im sure she would have gone ahead with it anyway.

$20k isn't steep at all when you are running a business and want to get a project off the ground and out to the masses.

Give Ken 20k instead to get the Echo Disk line, SV Deluxe, and HS redesign up and running. Now that I would support, money well spent. To each his own...

It will. The cartridges can withstand a lot of abuse, and the enclosure is large enough for people with big feet to not get in the way.

Posted this over at TGP, but figure I'd post it here too, since some people are asking about other builders getting involved, which is a completely valid point.

I'm actually more excited about the DIY community and independent non-builders getting involved. The platform is such that people who normally wouldn't have the workspace or capitol to build full guitar pedals can do so with the console. :)

That's not to say I'm excited to have other builders on board as well. :)

We were able to raise over $10k for the Silver Rose which imho was much more of a niche effect that the Console is, so I'm confident we'll get to $20k in a month. The idea is too good not to happen... and if for some reason it falls through, then we'll just have to develop it slowly through out the year.

We're actually done with 95% of the R&D. The remaining 5% is simply adjusting our older design to fit the larger enclosure and incorporate the blend knob which is a well established circuit that has been used in the Silver Rose and I believe variations are in INFANEM pedals.

So yeah... the kickstarter is a way to make this all happen sooner, but after everything we've learned the past year from the Silver Rose (and other projects) I'm excited to do what it takes to get this off the ground, regardless of the time and cost. :)

I don't know. The silver rose was a multifuzz with a ton of controls, right? Seems less like a niche and more like every control freak fuzzer's type of pedal.

The issue that I have with this whole concept (along with the hardware lock) is that you're limited to two pedals being used at once. If you just spend the extra money, you can have all of your effects running at any given moment. If you do a lot of "pedal changes" between songs, or have a time restricted set this thing is so impractical (because along with swapping cartridges, you now have to readjust the knobs, which could be a bitch if you're doing two swaps on complex circuits). And as a fucked up tone freak, I'd rather have the option to overload my board with everything on at once, than have to choose between two effects in series/parallel on a console.

And, while I am curious about the independent builders aspect (I've been wanting to build, with my main hangup being the money) it seems like it's still an INCREDIBLY niche and even MORE risky market for a small builder to do runs in, because you're now hardware specific, really limiting your market. An established builder may have less of a problem with this, but as a dude who's too broke to even prototype, it REALLY limits my potential consumer base.

Personally, the whole thing seems like an idea that isn't going to get off the ground unless there's MASSIVE OVERWHELMING support, which I just don't see happening. This thing needs to have it's own community, and become an indie builder's playground. I mean, I'd love to see it happen, but I just really don't think it will.

I understand your skepticism, and I look forward to impressing you with the success of the platform in the long run. :)

Best of luck!
I Hope this works out for Devi and her customers.

For me the DIY potential for this are really interesting.
With a simple bread board>cartridge wiring harness, It'd be like a double Beavis board.

Yeah... per board carts and cart-to-breadboard adapter will be the first non-devi carts available along with the Console II. :)

There's even a specific DIY reward available on the kickstarter for just that!

Sure, new is good but this isn't really new, more rehashed gimmick imo. Trying something new isn't always a profitable or wise venture, esp for small businesses with limited resources, thus the Kickstarter with enormous goal funded by customers and lack of builder $$ investment.

I understand it would take longer for Devi to raise necesarry funds but this was announced long ago with plenty of builders attached. Ooooh I can't wait for those Echo Disks! Speaking of which, methinks we should have a dedicated subforum for Infanem...

The only thing I can say is, I'm still looking forward to how this will all work out in the end, but the whole DIY aspect doesn't seem like something to bet on...the ZVex Inventobox (or whatever it was called) didn't really have support after the release, even from the ZVex faithful.

Me too!!! I hope you guys understand as well that I'm not taking anything away from Ken in terms of productivity and pushing forward with his incredibly brilliant effects plans... as a matter of fact, I'd like to think I'm his biggest supporter. It's not exactly as though he is doing me favors with his great engineering work. I pay him plenty of money, and he works on my projects when he has down time with his own. Not to mention we're good friends and have been enjoying the pleasure of each other's company as room mates for almost a year now. :)

I understand the hostility towards me and this project though, and I respect everyone is extremely skeptical of this, and defensive of Ken and his work, because his work is indeed something brilliant in a business that you would think doesn't have anymore room for growth... yet time and time again he flips effects paradigms on their head, but not enough people recognize it... but word is definitely getting out! :D

Much love for Ken... and much love for everyone's skepticism here. It makes me want to work harder to prove that this project is something worth supporting!
