That may be the best trade I've ever heard of.

Yeah, that story alone makes the thread bump worth it.

Sweet deal haha. I never have luck at pawn shops but garage sales are where it's at. Once found a fulltone SupaTrem and a boss CS-2 at an estate sale for 20 bux each.

I had a JC120 in the 80's. Like an idiot I lost my temper and smashed it, then dragged it from my friend's truck.

That K-Bar was a sweet deal. Which model??? LOL

In the 90's, pawn's used to be a goldmine for the cheap Japanese garage rock guitars. I never find any deals at pawns now. DVD's for $1 is about it. In a few years of living near three shops, I've bought an electric heater and a chrome Korg Pitchblack tuner. Paid the same for the Pitchblack as I would GC used or etc. Couldn't find a decent knockaround solid state guitar combo when I looked this week. Even craigslist is very slim on deals now. My Peavey amp head and Avatar cab were good deals, solid gear in mint condition, but nothing worth braggin' about.

Most of my recent deals were when I was working at guitar ctr. I snagged a couple Digitech Hardwire pedals as they were being cleared out; CM2 Overdrive and a SP7 Phaser. At $30-$45 a pedal, they were a great deal. They did a couple employee auctions that I got some odd sweet gear from; a pair of used '51 pawn shop Fender Japan guitars (the strat body / tele neck ones), and a 65amps 1x15 bass cabinet. The more I play my old Bassmaster through that cab, the more I realize that 1x15 is the best deal I've found in years. The Celestion in it sounds amazing at 'low' wattage but handles the Firebass wattage too.

90 bucks for an EQD cloven hoof at a pawn shop. Most pawn shops in town suck for music gear deals. I have better luck on facebook....got my DOD Death Metal and a BOSS EQ pedal for $25 apiece, a Rainbow Machine for 200.....pretty decent deals to be had with FB music groups. :!!!:

Best deals I got from pawn shops though were when I ran the gun shop.

We had a pawn license.

Anything we wouldn't buy for stock (including most musical stuff), I could make a personal offer on.

I made out like a bandit.

Also got first crack at all the musical gear, and we were the only place that'd take most of it in a couple hundred miles.

If it didn't say Fender or Gibson or Martin, most shops just won't take it (and even then).

But the actual deals I got in that way aren't available to the average soul so I won't make you cry.

Pawn shop near me had a Traynor Mono Block II for a hundred and change that I regret not nabbing. There has been an Ensoniq DP4 (DP4+ maybe? I forget) for 225 for the last year and I often think about tryna talk them down.

If they've got a code written on the price tag, look at the letters.

Industry standard for mom+pops (and some smaller chains) is PATHFINDER (p=1, a=2, t=3, etc), any bogus letters are fillers. It tells you what they have into it.

Estate sales & CL but a lot of creeps on CL too. Almost not worth it. Is your avatar from Conan the Barbarian?

Oh man I've ended up in some weird situations chasing deals on craigslist. And yeah Conan rules.
