Is he really really small, or is that a really really big Flying V?

Not sure about the V, but it may be the camera. I don't know the dude, but we were drinking at the same pre-party a few years ago and I didn't notice him as being particularly short or tall, just sort of regular looking skinny metal head.

I'm also so in for the HM-2 kit. I don't really dare to gig with mine cos I dig it so much, which is kind of fucked up logic. I also think it sounds good on other settings then everything maxed, which is kind of heretical. Not to say I don't dig the maxed sound (I loves me some Dismember) it's just that it's easy to overlook the other sounds you can get out of it. On FSB some dudes worked out the frequency response of the HM-2's eq so you can mod a Boss EQ to give you the same frequency response. I'm not good enough at understanding stuff to be able to say any more than that.

edit: fixed quote

Can't you get these things for like $50 used all day long?

Boss, Ibanez, Digitech, and Danelectro all play weird games with their gyrator eqs, more usually though of fixing a band response with a fixed resistor. (An amazing number of pedals are the Metalzone with different eq.) Kind of like the no-knob fixed mids on blackface and silverface Fenders. In DIY, you can change the preset value, preset a different band and give the previously fixed band a control, or add a control.

Hmm. Too much control may introduce temptation to dial a non-ugly sound. Dunno about that.

i think just adding a mids control without touching the values isnt awful since you can still get the classic tones from this pedal

$25 every other day from my experience. Practically bomb-proof, so I wouldn't worry about gigging it.

Nah, I mostly agree. I was trying to be a bit clever in making the point that people who like it do so despite and because of the weird eq. I wonder if people who wouldn't dial it to match the original would complain about it not sounding the same. People are nuts, after all.

that is a possibility. Placebo effect or something messing with your mind about it.

I might need to do a proto first to show how close it is to original

Maybe it's cos of Entombed and Dismember and what not, but I paid 900 Swedish kronor for my MIJ HM-2, which is 135 USD. I'd say the average price over here is around 1100 SEK, which is 165 USD. I was checking out Ebay for a while, but most of the private sales wouldn't deliver overseas. Then you get stung for postage (seems dudes selling cheap pedals make up for it with the postage) and the risk of 25% import duty on the price including postage...

Thinking of picking up HM-2s for cheaps makes me depressed.

Good thing Dismember banishes all feelings except the will to break stuff!
