Both could be OD/Distortion/Fuzzy at times

I'd generalize the WC to fuzz, and the Rat to od/distortion. I think both can do a bit of all three though (od/fuzz/dist).

Out of my dirt boxes, it looks like my OD to fuzz ratio is about 1/4.

Yeah there are more and more pedals coming out that can do a ton of things, I can even get my fuzz war into OD territory if I want to crack it open, the world is a wonderful place if you like dirtboxes.

Fuzz is awesome. Overdrive is awesome. 3 overdrives in a row can make fuzz.

I don't see the problem.

The way the original post was worded, it mostly referenced your own pedal board situation. That's why I misunderstood.

But to answer your intended question I have an English Muff'n overdrive that is on all the time as a pre amp and a Fuck Overdrive for a medium gain drive. I then have two or three other "fuzzes" on my board, my custom super Tri-fuzz, Boss HM-2, and a Devi Aenima. Although I have a flip switch on my Aenima that decreases the gain which it makes it more overdrive/distortion like and set my Tri-fuzz to huge big muff, oscillating, wall of fuzz.

But like I said before stacking is key for me, I try to set up my drive pedals so they sound good by themselves or stacked together and that sometimes means lowering the gain/drive/intensity of them so they're more like overdrives.

I am not much of a stacker actually, I do like running fuzz pedals into "amplike" OD pedals but in general I don't set up dirt to stack.
I have stacked in the past but it wasn't for me.

I love stacking, lately I've been running my TAFM with the input gain rolled back and pretty even clean blend so it's not that heavy, then bassy and kinda dirty Sparkle Motion in front of that beefs it up a bit, and the Arc Flash is set pretty low gain after the TAFM for more of everything (plus they're in the Chk Chk Boom loop for even more volume and oscillation when I want that :joy: ). They all sound great individually and stacking just gives more options.

Sorry guys, it was early when I commented on that and I was grumpy.

I guess it really depends on how you think of the old MXR Distortion+. i've always thought of it as a fuzz rather than an overdrive because when it was my only dirt box i used it either for the Neil Young sound or to emulate Jerry Garcia's fat late-70s lead lines, i.e. for a huge roaring sound rather than some kind of SRV blues-rock thing. even if you insist on calling it an overdrive, that leaves me with one clean boost (Mellowtone Hi 5), the D+, and three "fuzz": an EQD Tone Reaper, EQD Sound Shank, and FH(fx) Algal Bloom. the Hi 5 is mainly there to balance the input level of the Fender guitars to the other higher-output guitars. i often stack fuzzes...the D+ runs well into anything, the EQD boxes stack wonderfully together, and anything into my typical Bloom settings = nuclear Rat from Hell. plus any three fuzzes stacked = feedback galore at conversational volume.

I like OD both pre and post fuzz, there's usually about 3 or 4 fuzz pedals in between them and those get swapped in and out depending on what I'm playing. Then again, I like just about everything pre and post fuzz.

I mostly put OD after fuzz
