my drummer keeps adding smaller toms and cymbals onto his drumset, and as we play, he takes them off because it just doesn't get used. then he puts them all back on and the cycle starts over.
Yeah, I don't understand why people think they need to do that......I think I could actually pair things down to bass drum, snare, hi-hats, and my 21" Memphis Ride (it crashes nice) and not feel like I was missing anything....though that Earth Ride is one heavy cutting beast of a ride.....and it is nice to slam on a floor tom. But mostly I hate all this super-fast double bass, splash, crash, china cymbal, side snare, small tom bullshit. The point is to lay down a rock solid heavy foundation....a Götterdämmerunging groove....a steady freaking beast of propulsion.
I played a gig last week...and used just my old Rogers kick, two snares (which I swap out depending on the song), no toms and one cymbal (22" Istanbul Mehmet Legend).
Good enough for ?uestlove, good enough for me.
Nice ludwigs! I love the gold wrap.

So anyway I did a bit of research and found out this wrap is called "Gold Astro". Don't really know how common it was or what years it was available in.

Just ordered a drum dial and I am in the process of dismantling and cleaning up the bass drum.

coooool. I wish I had a place to have another set of drums.
I just bought a smaller kick for my kit, but I wish I could've just gotten another set.

What are those things on your sticks, and are those the steve gadd signature sticks?

The sticks are Ahead 7A's.
The loops are Gig Grips. They make it really easy to hold on to the sticks and not grip too tightly. I will never play without them again.
