Album[s] vs bands or songs... that put a elbow in my thinking and warped me...

It's hard as most things I think about are continuations in direction or just fit too well with my concepts at the time I find them... but these two... set the curves in where my mind went... or something all deep and shit...

Not an album, but a documentary on Andres Segovia called Soul of the Guitar. Saw that when I was 13 and got seriously lost in playing classical guitar for ... a very fucking long time.
I'd been listening to Kiss and UFO and stuff like that up til then.
A world changer.

Actually, go listen to their self-titled. It's a lot more doom.

Definitely dig this more than the other stuff I checked out.

The two that immediately come to mind:

- Low Level Owl by The Appleseed Cast.
- Calculating Infinity by The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Both given to me by my cousin like 10 years ago. FUCKED MY SHIT UP.

I bought this one when I was 16 and it completely changed my views on what a band with traditional instrumentation (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard/synths) could sound like. Also, it introuduced me to the concept of effects as instruments(even though I didn't know what was going on at first.) It's pretty tame now, but at the time the four "Rock" albums were pretty experimental.

Also Pink Floyd's Meddle. Actually, the movie "At Pompeii" more than this record at first, I watched/listened to Echoes non-stop for months.

I don't know... there's SO MUCH of awesome albums that really have dropped my jaw and give me a lot to think about playing wise... FIRST Elvis, then - I guess - the eponymous Dio album, followed by Black Metal by Venom, followed later by the Merciful Fate Don't Break The Oath and my first own Motörhead album Orgasmatron...

the first two King Crimson albums I heard, Larks Tongue In Aspic and the Discipline, the eponymous Hawkwind album and Jonas Hellborg Group 1990 album were all disheartening and illuminating albums at the same time.

The first Ramones album and Neat Neat Neat by The Damned and stuff by Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper were awesome junior high albums that made me crazy about electric guitar. Seeing da' Nuge live was my first rock concert.

It was the first Die Kreuzen album, Husker Du, and Naked Raygun that really made me want to play bass. I'm better at bass, but I still love playing craptacular guitar and will for the rest of my days.

An old roomie ruined Janes Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers, cuz he'd play them every day. We had to kick him out of the house after the first year. He moved back in a year later and had lost the habit, thankfully.

When I was in 5th grade I was digging through my moms records and came upon this

Changed everything for me. I did not realize that songs could be 10+ min. long
That day I decided I wanted to play bass. Hell this made me want to play music.
Im still hopelessly addicted to Animals and have listened to it at LEAST once a month since the first time I heard it. I have worn out 3 records to the point of being unlistenable

Thats one of 3 cds in my local library's "electronic" section. The other two are "switched on bach" type comps.
