Mr. Beast is solid. Batcat's got a ridiculous riff.
Young Team is fucking essential.
Government Commissions is also pretty key listening.

See, Batcat is one of my least favorite songs on that album. It's not bad, but I highly prefer other songs, like Thank You Space Expert & I Love You, I'm Going To Blow Up Your School.

Nope, but I'll check them out once I can get back into my room and grab my headphones.
Also, Mogwai have the best titles of any band, ever.

That title belongs to the locust. Gluing carpet to your genitals does not make you a cantilope.

I have fond it usually just better if people liked different bands and had different back grounds. It brings more varied subtle influences to the songs. As long as people have agreed of doing the same project with about the same goals, that will do for me.

Yeah, I think it's that "experimental" element that I'm always trying to get: Bringing people with different influences together with no preconceived ideas of what is going to come out of it.

some friends of mine would make "we're starting a band" fliers and hand them out at shows. they were putting together a ska band, so it was relatively easy for them to just go to a Reel Big Fish concert and get 20 kids lined up to try out. it's a total crapshoot as far as talent goes, but it was effective for finding people with similar taste in music.

And out come the fisticuffs...
Stop Coming To My House.
I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead.
The Sun Smells Too Loud
Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
A Cheery Wave From Stranded Youngsters
Wake Up And Go Berserk.
And the aforementioned "I Love You, I'm Going To Blow Up Your School."

Too close to call it I think, both have some hilarious titles.

I used bandmix.com to find people within a traveling distance. Through that, I found a douchebag with a good voice and got myself playing again, while keeping one foot out the door looking for something better. After 3 more months I found people with similar tastes and personal disposition. Then I made them be my friends. The drummer: younger than me but very experienced, nice, fun, and can get me weed. The guitarist: older than me but less experienced on his instrument and on stage, but good taste in music and movies. Both have great gear. Now we're a band.
The key is to find people you like and want to be in a band with, then teach them how to play what you like.

Sounds like Sun Ra. He preferred to work with musicians who'd never picked up their instrument before and build a band from scratch.

i dunno. i've been thinking of maybe putting up some semi-obtuse flyer like
"hey, my name is X. I like to make music like this *description* if you do to, thats pretty rad. we should try and start a band. Or if you're just tired of the usual *top 3 genres for "musishinz wanted" like say blues, metal, or classic rock etc.* and just want to try something new, do that"
