Neurosis took me 8 years to get into. It was very much worth the effort.

Well then I've 'liked' them for two. Yeah man. Old school.

DarkAxel, make one of their London shows next tour. I'll be there, I have people there we can hang with.

Both are wonderful hosts, fantastic cooks and attractive women.

All right, this thread has made me throw on Through Silver In Blood for the umpteenth time. I'm going to try to make it all the way through.

Any other suggested records?
beyond "all of them, you Philistine."

edit-wow, fuck, ok, that album's a whole lot better than I remember it.

Try "Times of Grace" next, since it's the next one cronologically. If you want to get really crazy, get Tribes of Neurot's "Grace" and play them simultaneously (there's a CD reissue with both discs). It would be worth checking out the "Sovereign" EP after that too, since they recorded it during the same sessions.

If you think you'd maybe be into an album with more of the mellower, more dynamic atmospheric stuff, maybe jump to "A Sun that Never Sets". It's no less heavy than the others, but it has more peaks and valleys than "Through Silver...", which is like getting bashed over the head in the best way possible.

I recently picked up the "Sovereign" LP reissue, and holy shit, is it awesome.

Seriously though... you're going to want to hear it all eventually, so it probably doesn't really matter.

I think what really got me about Through Silver... this time was listening to it properly--no distractions, no lights, nothing but my headphones in a dark room. It's so fucking cinematic I feel ashamed that I'd passed over the whole record before. I didn't even notice Locust Star until it was over.

Looks like the Grace double feature is up next... Anyone got a good way to play them both at the same time (I don't have two cd players)?

Yeah man... they definitely require active listening. Not background music by any stretch. There's just so much depth to it.

Do yourself a favor, and see them live too. Such an incredible experience. Total sensory overload.

As to your question.... Can you play an ipod/cd simultaneously? Or tape "Grace" if you have a tape deck?

I used to have a high quality wave file of the 2 blended together i will see if i can find it, i ripped both cd's to wav files then mixed them together and exported as a single wave file without track markers.... the only way to listen to it ;) kinda like dopethrone/jerusalem from sleep....

It's an experience alright.

The band are fucking airtight. 'A Sun...' is one of my favourite albums of all time. 'Eye of Every Storm', if you think about it, really perfected the textural side of their music. They do require active listening, absolutely. An experience defining band, to say the least. The meaningful moments in my life they soundtracked (literally, as opposed to metaphorically) were as shaped by them as the actual occurings.

Gotchya. The Jerusalem version is seriously lacking, for sure.

The synching issue is that I've only got one pair of speakers at the moment, and I can't run more than one of the tape/record player/cd inputs at once.

Neurosis is the reason I play music, they embody everything I think music should be. Dave Edwardson is my goddamn hero.
