when you dont have people to play with that is the time to study and become better at knowing your instrument. being comfortable with where you are on the fretboard really helps when playing with people.
Fo sho', but it's good to know how to read other musicians and have a give-and-take. I know this guy who is an amazing guitarist, but he's really tough to play with because he writes his songs note for note and won't follow a chord structure or key, just what sounds good(I'm sure it's in key, he's not too outside the box). Whereas, I'm the exact opposite.
