Oh man, I didn't see this, sorry. Wasting your money on pedals right now ... get an amp.

+1
Amp takes priority. Although I don't know any specific guitar amps to recommend

less than 300 get a Pignose G40V. Has a master volume, great for practicing and can drive a cab to balls loud no problem. It is based on a bassman, and is a no nonsense amp. 40watts of power will definitely carry over in the band. You can always add more gain with better tubes. Get yourself a beat to shit cabinet, and if need be upgrade the speakers. That amp alone nails most Black Keys stuff, I like a Fender Blender for really splatty stuff. good luck!

Love the Tiny Terror as an at home practice amp. Might want to think about getting the head version with your cab of choice rather than the combo though.

Man fuck you guys and your bandwagon "amps before pedals" stance.
...
There's no self-satisfied emoticon.
Fuck it. That's petulant, self-absorbed, and petty.
I love y'all.
"Y'all" may also be the single best Southern export ever.

Gotta love Holy Fuck.
F'real though, I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon(it is music we're talking about. Y'knowbandwagon). Your amp is the most important part of your rig. The foundation of sorts. Then pedals, then guitar(yes I did put pedals above guitar).

An IC- BIg muff clone or even a black russian big muff could get pretty close, the Catalinabread manx fuzz is really cool. Interms of amps all you raelly need is a good clean amp as a platform for all of your pedals (like me). I'd reccomend a Roland JC-120 or JC-50 if you want something smaller.

Yeah, I have a fairly good knowledge of some directions to go for pedals(I enjoy memorizing the product lists of boutique pedal makers). A new amp is severely important as I figured, since I can't rely on my Marshall piece of asshole forever, so any recommendations for amps that are like 500-800?

Ebay is loaded with cool shit. If you look hard enough you can probably find one of the Univox (I think that's who made them) Plexi clones. A bunch of old PA's are pretty tits with guitar. A bass amp with an eq should be able to get serve you well; god knows there are enough $200, million and a half watt solid state bass amps.

A used Jc-120, got mine for $425. It's the cleanest, loudest amp there is. 120 watts into two 12 in. speakers. There are also smaller versions Jc-50, which is 50 watts and one 12 in. speaker. A peavey classic 50 would be cool too, I saw one for used for $650 which is a good price.

So, essentially just look for a nice modern tube amp? As I've stated, I have my little Kalamazoo Model 2, but from what I remembered from the last time it worked was that any chance at getting a clean signal was a joke.
