yep i don't use/like chorus too much, except to add a bit of depth/dimension when doing the shoegaze thing...

i use an old Boss CE-2.
i also have an old MIJ arion chorus/flanger pedal that let's you select either one or in between... it's insane and VERY cool sounding.

but on my pedalboard it's the CE-2.

Pat.

thrushes wrote:i actually really like the guyatone mc-3 micro chorus. it's small and relatively cheap, good warm organic sounds, plus a slight volume boost when on. we use one on bass and keys a lot. but that crappy rubber thing to secure the base is HORRIBLE!

I was starting to think I was alone on that one. It seems better at thickening in a Univibe sort of way than most other chorus pedals, though it's not exactly that sound. I also got the $7 Starcaster Chorus (a Boss CE-5 clone) that does the etched, shimmery thing much better than the Guyatone. But the Guyatone is like a chorus pedal for people who don't like chorus. (Which I generally consider myself -- weird, huh?)

BTW, they're being blown out by Godlyke, their American distributor, for $50 a pop. http://www.godlyke.com/guyatone/micro-effects-series Hard to go wrong.

Biyang for subtle
Modded Small Clone w/ Tremolo/Vibrato for slightly weirder
Ring Thing for freakout

I think people hate chorus because they are hearing 80's rock when they think of the effect.

I love it, currently own 4 chorus pedals have owned at least 15 in my lifetime, the pitch possibilities in a noise loop are almost endless.

I did realize a while back that some of the things I wanted a chorus pedal to do could better be duplicated with a Vibe

I'm not a chorus person, but i kinda liked Ibanez DSC10 :idk:

very sparkly and clean, but in a good way... the delay options are quite helpful in final toneshaping

BBE Mind Bender for fat and lush analogue, EQD Sea Machine for subtle all the way to insanity.

DOD FX-65 is the only chorus I ever really liked, its subtle and swirly with a nice old school sound and most importantly cheep.

Polychorus is the only chorus for me.

The polychorus i had was pretty badass. the only reason i parted with it is because of the jump in volume when engaged. you guys notice that too? anyone know if there is a mod to correct that?
second to the polychorus i'd say EQD Sea machine.

Yeah, it can jump in volume very slightly but this can be exagerated or hidden depending on where in your chain you put it, (pre/post dirt etc). I don't know if there is mod for it or not. I like it with a bit for a boost, I usualy want some extra volume for the applications I'm using it for.

The echo flanger I have has a noticable drop in volume. :idk:

wow, that's the first time i've ever heard someone complain of a modulation unit giving them a JUMP in the volume. man bites dog!

The starcaster chorus is plenty o' chorus for my taste, but I'm not exactly a cork sniffer when it comes to chorus pedals. The only settings I ever use on those things is either the little shimmer or the crazy warbles anyways, so I figure I better not spend an arm and a leg on it. Honestly, I think it's just a copy of a CE-2 but whatever. Mine's actually broke and only the filter section works, but it does wonders for my muddy clean sound.
