Or better yet a meatsmoke.

i find the tube svt to be extremely fuzz unfriendly
i play a vintage one in a band and while it sounds great, it's already pretty throaty not much room for fuzz
played a classic at a gig recently, it only liked the rat, pretty disappointing
play the meatsmoke in another band, while it does sound great, im not a big fan of how it handles muff circuits, but that is pretty much unnecessary with the overdrive channel it has
you can find sunn 2x15's on CL locally for around 200 often
monolith is local as well

I'll have to respectfully disagree. My bassist and best friend plays an svt reissue and I think it sounds incredible with fuzz. It's obviously a throaty and incredibly meaty amp, but, it all depends on how everything is being set up, bass choice, etc....

Hopefully he chimes in.

MiddleEarthCrisis wrote:If you are planing on using a 2x12 cab I'd suggest:

Ampeg- B25B, V4 or VT22(V4 2x12 combo).

Sunn: 200S, 2000S or Sorado.

Reasonable prices for the B25B, 200S, and Sorado are $300-$600 depending on condition.

Reasonable prices for the V4 and VT22 $500-$800 depending on condition.

The 2000S normally go from $800-$1000.

I that seems like a great price range and I get to be hip for a while with a sunn rig to match that cab.

I am at work now. However I think I would be ok placing a want ad here and at TB for a 200s.

Talk to me on how you ship a tube head.

oh and I love you guys!

Pull tubes out. Wrap them. A shot ton of packing peanuts and foam and what not. A box that will support the weight. Have it insured.

When I got my head in the mail it was packing peanuts, some extra cardboard underneath and on top of the amp, wrapped in plastic/foam and the tubes were in their original boxes wrapped in plastic and in the packing peanuts. All in an incredibly hefty box.

I think it's ready to go, actually. It gets really hot, some involved think it's too hot, some think it's OK.
I've been rocking Big Jim lately, on bass and guitar. It takes pedals very nicely. It's kind of dark, which is god for bass, but if you want to do that clanging stinging chicago guitar stuff, I would not recommend it.

I haven't tried it with all the cabs in the world, just a 1x15 and 2x12. It certainly keeps up in a band on bass through the 1x15. I didnt really push it in the 2x12, I was using that for guitar work.

I think Big jim will be around $1700? I'd have to double check with Derek.
The Love Buzz for bass keeps up with a band, but you have to get pretty dirty.

And yes, we are still making them and selling them to people!

I wish I could show you what i've been tracking..... but I have to behave and wait for release...

Here is some Sunn info:
Sunn Shack

The top is mostly interviews but if you scroll about half way down the page it list all the amps and gives some good info.
If you like the 200s definitely consider the Sorado. It is the same exact amp as the 200s but when it came out, it was sold with a different cab so they gave it a different name. I have found the Sorado usually sells for $100-$200 less than the 200s. :idk:
I bought my Sorado which was in great condition and came with a road case for $400 shipped on ebay about 6 months ago.
I have seen most the 200s since then go for $500-$600.

There are a couple Sorados and a 200s w/empty 2x15 cab on ebay right now.

That is wonderful! However at this point I want the 2k to cover both the cab and the head. Right now I am leaning more towards and Emperor 2x12 with a Sunn 200s or Sonrado. This would be the ultimate home rig and if on a blue moon I wanted to jam with friends I would not have a problem. With the few sunn amps I have played with, while still bright I could EQ that with a stomp box and add my layers of dirt.

But ho mama that does sound sexy indeed.

i dont find the reissues throaty or meaty, but i have never liked ampeg bass amps in general, even though they seem to work great for other people, they never seem to capture the low end i'm looking for with my playing style

side note, i have a toronado i dont really play...

:picard:

Marshalls, Laneys, and Ampeg SVTs, broheim. The whole Orange mythos is all Sleep's fault. Holy Mountain was Laney AOR's, Acid King is/has been JCM800's, and so on.

Not that the Orange/Matamp circuit isn't god's gift to ears, but a whole lot of the Orange doom lore was rooted in the relative unobtanium of the Green GT120s.

Pfft, tubes.

Get an old Acoustic Control Corp. They go for dirt cheap, too.
