I always try to separate image from sound although it becomes difficult at times(an not just in this instance). I agree with you wholeheartedly the Sex Pistols sounded great and original. That's really all that matters. Anything else is extraneous.

My comment about the production wasn't meant to be critical at all. I was simply referring to the fact that punk would later favor a more stripped down under-produced sound as opposed to the "wall of sound" used on that album(shame because it sounds fucking rad). But that's later. It's always hard to comment on something like punk music when it's so ingrained in punk culture, what punk's at the time perceived as punk culture, what punk's now perceive as punk culture based on that and what others perceive as punk culture based on what others perceive based on what others have perceived(ad nauseum). Ultimately, I agree with you wholeheartedly. The music itself is fucking fantastic, so that's what really matters. As a matter of preference(<--key word) I just happen to dig the depth of the Clash's discog considerably more.
