Every person I know that gets vinyl doesn't buy it from a physical record store. They order it online with a digital download included.

If I didn't have access to the record stores I do, I would definitely be getting my vinyl online. I don't think it makes anyone more or less of a "hipster" based on whether or not they buy vinyl. Some people simply enjoy having something tangible whether it be vinyl, cassete, cd, etc. rather than just digital downloads.

I do that in the local section, usually based on how cool I think the band name is.

I usually go to cd stores and rummage through used cds till i find something cheap that i havent heard yet but once i found a various artists cd called "No Alternative" anyone familiar? I has alot of good bands on it but it was the worst song by each band:< thoroughly disappionted

At my local record store they have bags of 10 used cds in a black bag for $5 dollars. each one is labled with a different genre.

I recently started shopping exclusively at record stores and buying physical formats again. As finances permit, my Sunday mornings now consist of grabbing coffee somewhere and immersing myself in my local record stores.

I frequently purchase music blind, and if I don't like it I don't mind. One day I might like it, or I'll figure out what I don't like about it. To be honest, some of the stuff I end up liking I might hate in a year anyway so any new music is a gamble on one timeline or another.

Yesterday I picked up the new Cut Copy album without having heard of the band and am currently digging it.

In the early days of MP3 downloading I used AudioGalaxy to stumble across unfamiliar music. Without listening to new stuff I never would have ended up in the world of ThreeOneG, NinjaTunes, and The Blood Brothers.

This, there's no vinyl stores in my home town, but during my trip to Chicago I went to Reckless records immediately and bought some MBV and Swervedriver. And how does buying something from the internet make it hipster? What about new releases on vinyl? I bought all of my current fuzz pedals online in some way, am I less of a fuzz fanatic because I didn't go into a store and try it out? I imagine there are other reasons you consider these folk hipsters and are just associating buying online with them.

I buy most vinyls at concerts. Only a few have I bought online and those are mainly of bands that aren't around anymore.

I think that some (albeit unfairly) associate internet shopping with a level of disconnection between a person and the culture that they are attempting to support. While there are a lot of people who dress/act/speak the part, they haven't "put in the time" to be granted access to being "true fans". This type of elitism and critique only serves to indict the critics in most arguments.

I order stuff from the internet when I know it will be cheaper than special order at my local record shop. If it's impulse buys with limited savings, I go to the shop.

Besides, ordering it online through the label or the artist is closer to home and supports independence further. More middlemen means higher markups and sometimes lower profit by the artist I would like to support.

I just picked up Earth Crisis by Steel Pulse based solely on the cover, and it turned out to be a pretty awesome reggae record.

I got a fair amount of these based on cover art or just by the instruments listed... After awhile you get good at finding unheard stuff you KNOW you'll like... I hope kids today still want album art...

Part of the experience if you ask me. Album art is a must.
