Tom Dalton wrote:(Little known fact: FuzzHugger finishes are 3-7 step, really hands-on, one at a time...our LEDs cost 3x as much as what other builders are using, and most of our knobs are 3-5x as much. We buy the best parts available, period--and in smaller batches, which costs us more. :) Everything pedal is done one-at-a-time. So how are they so much more affordable compared to other hand-built pedals? :idk: )

ALSO:

Listen word on that shit. I just contacted another builder who supposedly has "great customer service" about doing a slight change in the finish on one of his/her pedals, and he writes me back (in all lower-case with minimal punctuation and miniMUM attention to grammar) and tells me that he'd have to do a special batch of ten just to do the very smaaaaaaall finish change that I wondered about... one that I know he/she has done in the past because I HAVE SEEN THE GRAIL.

And then but so sometimes I'll e-mail Tom and be like "Hey can I get an extremely bastardized version of your pedal with the goofiest weird sparkly butthole finish wrapped in your wife's hair and also with a cutout of the actual skin that your tattoo is on and also can you make it using only your big and little piggies on both feet except like I absolutely MUST have thirty switches on it that don't really do anything but they feel good to flip up and down and also THE BIG SILVER KNOBS?" and he's like "Sure, dude!"

All for like five bones.

Evan, good job.

Tom, if you add the freq knob to the AFO, you should make it a push pull of one of the knobs. The three knob look is soo good on it.

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing that people know this!

I'm really sorry, but there's next to no chance. There's not nearly enough room with the new layout. Sorry!

:)* That's cool! I've never tried a Rat.

Good time to talk Arc Flash tone! It's a hard pedal to describe. I'd say it's primarily--at least for most of its control sweeps--an overdrive and distortion. Like most FuzzHugger(fx) pedals, it's got an extra-wide range...where other builders might limit their controls to fall in a very specific range ("it's an OD, it must only OD!"), limiting controls seems a bit crazy to me. I figure, if you can also make it fuzz... So the end result makes it probably the widest-range FuzzHugger(fx) pedal.

Dang!

Well, when can I buy one? :!!!:

Also the freq knob isn't just tone right? What does it do?

I do believe it is tone.

Samesies.
Tom Dalton wrote:It's a frequency/tone control. Not one that's going to over-dampen frequencies, but one that'll allow you to reign the Arc Flash in to just where you want it! The AF runs the full spectrum, from low to high, and it can get cutting. Enter the new control!

Yes, it is tone, and a subtle control at that--only for highs! But it lets you get things "just right!"

Think of it this way. You can have it be super clipping distorto insanity, it's got that Rat kind of clip too it, but think of wide open muff intensity with rat-like tone. or you could do light clipping OD from light clipping all the way to your standard rat like clipping distortion. I had the hi-cut knob added because i play my single coil DiPinto through a twin with the bright switch on and treble at 7 so needless to say when i plugged in the hi end from this pedal was way harsh since i set my EQ with such a hi end bump. The problem was, it had the EXACT tone character i was looking for. THAT tone, that i can describe only as Arc Flash. The Hi-Cut knob took care of that. It's so awesome. :)

I feel like this totally explains the AF! Especially in mode 1 with the fuzz maxed.
