Avenue of the Giants is one of the songs by Friends in the Mountains, a band active from 2000 to 2003. It was part of a self-released EP that they packaged themselves. Unfortunately, I only discovered it after the band had broken up. While I believe it could have been mastered a bit better, still stands as one of the best tracks I've ever heard.

Best part is the whole EP is free to download. Kinda wish they gained more notoriety before they broke up.

It'd be nice to see what people think of them almost a decade after.
Do you like listening to homemade music? Me too. Why don't you try one of mine?

Current ILF Love: OHNOHO CHK CHK BOOM, Mellowtone Melx Fuzz 2, EQD Dream Crusher, Devi Ever ID, Dr. Scientist Proto-Miniberator - new vids eventually

Since only one of the contests has been entered, whoever wins will be able to pick which pedal they want.

I would enter the other one, too, but I'm having issues with my recording setup lately and haven't been able to figure it out.

Yeah,..the best Mecha Shiva can do while the DAW computer is being reworked is record on a Real to Real and by then I don't see mix down and conversion to mpegs occurring before the deadline. Hey,...our songs are all original improv and I don't know if we'd blow the OP away,...but it's certainly worth checking out and possibly considering for the contest,...albeit not in line with the rules (all recorded last year,...decidedly not after the date of this thread),...but hey can't blame a guy for trying/pleading his case.

I could possibly extend the deadline. As it is if I took yours it would be the only entry. Also, I had wanted new stuff to encourage competition. So, I could add two weeks on for contest 2 if you would do something new, and if other people would also. I'd like at least 5 entries, so that I wouldn't just be giving a pedal away to someone that won only by default.

Well maybe extend but even then I don't know how long it would take to get new tunes up. We really just record our improv rehearsals,...we have no "songs" so something could happen when our drummer gets his computer running Ableton smoothly (he got a new job after being unemployed for 6 months and has a hole to dig out of),...but it looks like I'd be the only one submitting OG music.

First to enter create-a-song contest it seems. I hope instrumental is alright. I can't sing worth a damn, and really couldn't come up with any non-generic melodies today.

Anyway, as for the recommend an album thing. From Shinki Chen's self-titled effort:

Well since there has been one entry for contest 2 and one possible? I'll extend that contest for another 2 weeks. I'd like at least 5 entries.

I've never been accused of being hard to impress musically, but I like this! Did you do every part? More than the song itself, I'm impressed by the production. What's your setup?

Thanks! I played everything and programmed the drums with BFD Lite (hit-by-hit.) The production...hah.

Signal chain:
Fender Mexican Stratocaster
Various Pedals (Philosopher's Tone, EQD Monarch, DMB Cosmic Crunch, Boss Giga Delay for the most part)
Fender Reverb '63 Reissue
Kork Toneworks Multi-effect pedal (all of the effects off, only using it as an attenuator/poor man's interface)

Recorded from the headphone out into the mic input into Logic on my laptop, then bounced the individual tracks/imported them into ProTools on the studio computer. A bit of compression, some stereo widening. That...should be about it. It's the set-up I use for just about all of my home demoing. It probably needs some more compression/lower threshold to bring it up some more. Had I known there would be two more weeks I would have added some more to this thing and given it some better production :omg:
