personally i really liked the prophecy series, and with the metal world's tone revolving either around bucker/mahogany or EMG/alder, its a wonder gibson doesn't capitalize on that.

also, anyone ever play a Raw Power LP or SG? theres something badass about a gibson with a maple fretboard, and the extra bite oughta sound amazing.

I think a Bari LP would be cool, but you have to see things from my standpoint which is I don't like the way "schecter and other more-geared-towards-heavy-music companies" do it Not saying I don't own pointy guitars and basses... I do... but.... But to me I like those classic shapes better then a lot of the newer ones, mainly because the "new" ones are still based on the classic stuff, and they always either go too gumby or to trying too hard. Take the Flying V, that is my favorite shape and it is a 50's shape, and to me not one of the "modern" versions have surpassed the 50's & late 60's versions, Ted got it right and Randy fucked it up in my eye. I'm not saying that there aren't some good shapes still coming out and some are really cool but schecter and ESP [of late] just get a big eh from me.

yeah, i won't disagree that theres been a scant few new guitar body designs that are actually new and don't suck (i used to sketch oodles of guitars to find just that, might post 'em in the art thread if i find 'em) but aside from the ibanez RG's uber pointiness, its usually a more symmetrical looking strat, which i'd say is usually pretty tasteful. but part of it is the fact that so many designs have already been done before. hell the Schecter Synester Gates custom/Avenger model is an old Teisco Spectrum 5.

PRS, and Parker has definitely put out a different shapes, too.

and personally, i prefer the Rhodes take on the V because its a bit more sleeck and modern and (at least with the pinstriping) gives homage to the V shape without being too "this is our flying V". the old V i feel is proportioned kinda weird, same with the explorer. but you'd be hard pressed to find something that i think improves upon the LP, Firebird, strat, rickenbacker, or tele.

Roads looks like a star Trek badge to me But again Flying Vs are my thing I remember the first time I saw a picture of one and said to my self "now THAT is a electric guitar!"

To me there are proportioned very well and balance great do to that.

I also have a trio of explore type guitars and bass too: A Ibanez Destroyer bass and guitar and a Jackson Kelly [SN is 00077 ]

I actually like the Parker shape a lot but I hate the bridge, I remember try to do a bend and using the wammy bar at the same time and the string popping off the saddle, not cool.

ooh! the kelly is an example (imo) of a good modification of an old shape. its the kind of guitar you refer to as an axe rather than a guitar. for obvious reasons :P

the parker bridge is a bit... weird. could never work it as well as anything else when I played it, and yet Adrian Belew goes nuts with 'em.

I also have 12s on it

When I play guitar I like big nasty midheavy sounds that can crush you, older style pickups work better for this for some reason metal pickups get in the way sonically
