I recently discovered this pedal and I'm quite astonished at the range of sounds that people are getting out of it!

Aside from Magiclawnchairs demo I can assure you as the owner of the standalone algal Bloscillator that it does not disappoint. Even with oscillator and 5th knob it is half the price of an unpainted fuzz factory and it can do everything that does and more.

Droning ghost tones - check
Glitchy pitch shifting - check
Swampy oscillatory bass tones - check
Random cutting off and in of notes/chords - check
Annoying high pitch squeek for when the band won't shut up - check

Also it's incredibly controllable. It took a pedal noob (me) only a little time figuring out how the knobs interact. And the madness doesn't happen so long as you are playing. Once you hold a note for longer than a second or two is when it starts.

What are you waiting for?! Get one!

people will think it is just another fuzz being hyped
at this point-- i never want to play another fuzz
it also allowed me to shrink my board because of it's versatility
algal bloom--singing tree--reverb--tuner---done

I really need to try one of these..

Word! I posted my fuzzpop pedalboard in the Pedalboard thread, and I went through the same thing.

Tuner > Algal Bloom > Hi Five > Small Stone > OUT

So simple and so versatile. Tom deserves every bit of praise he gets for the Bloom.

On another note, I feel like putting oscillation with the Algal Bloom is doing it a disservice. Now, that's just me. BUT I feel like the AB is perfect the way it is. If you want oscillation, get an AB-Synth! That's what it's for! Or a Velcroscillator, as I've heard nothing but good things about that. Again... just what I think. I have an AB-Synth and an Algal Bloom.

i agree that the algal bloom is perfect as it is for a pedal that does not oscillate! seriously, if tom ever told me he was thinking about tweaking the algal bloom i would steal his bike!

however, i am a fan of oscillation. to say adding an option to what could be the most versitile fuzz pedal ever that does not change its original functionality is doing a disservice might be a tad harsh. if you think the algal bloom might sound good oscillating you are dead wrong. IT SOUNDS AWESOME!!!

i think the only improvement would be for it to pick up better radio stations.

i don't HATE Katy Perry, but Teenage Dream is kinda annoying

I think if you ask nicely, Tom will mod your Algal Bloom with an AM/FM switch. There's just not enough room for a tuning knob, unfortunately.

As far as picking up radio stations, my Algal Bloom is as quiet as a dickhole.
