Man, that's harsh. I thought you were a nice guy too.
Explain to me how I wasn't nice. All I did was be honest and disagree with you. I never insulted you in any way.
Also, I'm not reading all of what you wrote. Like I said I'm not looking for any advice at this point in my recording. If I wanted advice I'd make a thread about it.

Or, for recording an entire band (cuz I'm lazy), AKG Perception on opposite end of room of amps. Just check out the myspace link down in my sig. Fuck yes.
Also, internets=serious business.

I made big fat posts because that's the best way to avoid sharp corners.

I use mine to sample things like my dishwasher: (check out the track titled Lost At Sea:
http://alonetone.com/mannequinraces/tracks)
Haven't used it to do proper amp recording but it's great for capturing those riffs when they are fresh out of the brain.

hell yeah mannequin races!!! that is very cool!
i will spend some time with you other tracks later!
yeah, i havent really gotten into the recording part of things yet. i have my tascam 424 and the cheap radio shack mics still but i have not used that in years. the owl cambridge recordings on the myspace in my sig were all done live in a garage with the h2 and for what it was the recordings sound great to us!
all my soundcloud clips are just h2 on the floor or table somewhere...

OH MY BARFS AND FARTS. straight DI guitar is probably the worst sound I can imagine. Unless you have amazing amp sim. software. A friend of mine has some really good shitwith Logic.
In my experience, you really can't beat a 58 with the ball unscrewwed, pointed slightly off center of the speaker. Ive had some good luck with a big ass condenser a foot and a half away.

Lately I've been using a Blue Baby Bottle right up close, slightly off centre, and have been getting really good results. But I usually use 3 or 4 mics and either blend or choose the best of them depending on the sound I'm after. A really shitty mic blended with a decent quality one can get some great results too.

Demos are a no right now as nothing is set up now and we are in postproduction setup plus with out you being able to be in the room with the amp first you would miss what I like about the fathead, sorry, maybe I'll try next session.
Ok thoughts, that I can give you:
Very accurate, the FH is the first time in years and years of recording guitar amps that I am actually getting the sound I hear in the room. Yes there is a little coloration but not as bad a most mics even ones that cost a lot more [ROAD, AKG, Audio Technica]. It is "warm" I guess but I feel the pre has as much to do with the warm thing as the mic, to me it is clear without being harsh
One thing is it picks up the room no matter where it is so if you have a shitty room without delusion you can get some odd ringings. Keep in mind we are talking guitar. Vocals on the other hand I am still on the fence, it's hard to pin down what yet that I don't like bout it as well as other mics for vocals and I feel that more experimenting must be done before I rule it out, we haven't really put it though it's paces on vocals yet IMOP.

No matter how hard I try; I can't get a good distorted recorded tone using a mic in this room. However when I use my Korg Pandora it comes out "right" almost every time.
More and more tube amps have direct outs now. Technically all you need is a good speaker sim.

I like a cheap Apex dual ribbon mic directly on the cloth, slightly off axis and an SM57 about six inches away pointed at the other speaker's dust cover.
I don't do clean.

I Close mic, hate the sterile sound of DI..
A kick and an instrument mic, kick just a hair off axis and instrument about half way out on the cone.
I would like to try an ambient room mic placed about 2 ft away, but I rattle things.
A friend mics small amps like Champs & Supros with 2 57s one off axis in front and the other in the back, and sets things so they don’t phase cancel. Looks weird but sounds great.

Maybe for some people.

I've used some Line 6 stuff and some great sounding stuff from Apple's Logic but I still prefer the sound of a mic'd guitar amp. To each their own. It all just really comes down to personal preference.

I record with a line out on a Bogner Duende into Presonus Firebox, and then run a KSM27 condenser microphone into the FMR Really Nice Preamp, then into the Firebox, all into Cubase. It's nice to blend sometimes or to have the option of either. I've also got a Zoom H2 that is nice to experiment with the stereo recording option of up to 96kHz; why hasn't someone created a low sampling recorder for today's market? I hear polaroid is coming back into fashion

firebox soon replaced with rme
