w/o Led Zep there wouldn't be, say, the Beastie Boys. so i respect the riffs. but seriously. FUCK LED ZEPPELLIN.
sometimes i try to figure out, "Okay where exactly did white people really screw up rock n roll ?" like the genesis of that. & i can safely say Led Zeppellin was an important part in that sordid appropriation.
(also. Blurillaz has good taste...)

Again, I'm not saying Bonham and JPJ aren't super talented musicians. I'm really not an idiot when it comes to music, I know how great they are. But I honestly believe that the bait for Zeppelin is the guitar, and the way Page made his guitar sound. He was ridiculously influential in the way his guitar sounded, and all of the studio tricks involved in that. I'm really not trash talking bass or drums as instruments, so you don't have to all bum rush me or anything.
And don't get me wrong, Led Zeppelin definitely isn't my favorite band, or even in my top 5 favorite bands. I just think they're a good band. Overrated? Yeah. Definitely. Was Page a good guitar player? He was better than most, and still is.
Disliking a guitarist for playing sloppy on purpose is like criticizing a painter for not painting something exactly how it looks. It's a style, guy. There's really only a very small margin of people who would actually consider Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page sloppy players. I've always just considered those people to be elitists.
I mean, really though. If you want your music to sound tight you probably should pick up classical music. Or Yngwie, another dude who sucks.
My point is that rock and roll isn't supposed to sound perfect. Quit trollin' me, bros. Musical tastes really aren't that serious. Neither is the internets.
Edit:
Wait, you're not in MSI, are you?

I know, I saw It Might Get Loud and he was far surpassed by both Edge and White) but his acoustic work used to be great. I personally prefer the might of John Paul Jones over Bonham or Page, simply because he's better. Plus I think that Them Crooked Vultures is the best shit I've heard in a long time, and a lot of that is because of the fact that JPJ fills out the space so well. The simple riffs are pounded home and sound heavy as fuck. Like, mammoth/tyrannosaurus heavy.
But again, that's just me.
............yeah?

the reason i never liked LZ is robert plant.
that being said...i've met robert plant and he was an incredibly nice gentleman. we talked about guitars for quite a while. 2 days later i actually ran into him in piccadilly. we walked and talked some more.
still though...i don't like zep but they have a great sound. (the first record is fine) page's production is huge. i think it's his vision and trailblazing that is the cause of his legend, more than just being a guitar player. compared to other music from '69...it's quite kool..and to think he just came from the yardbirds..wow...nice leap. (check out the live clips from scandinavia when billed as the new yardbirds)
then there's kashmir. if any of us could write a song like that and have it's sound still be worthy 3 decades later ... well, then we wouldn't be here talking about fuzz boxes.
page means nothing to me directly but i think he's influenced many others that do mean something to me. respect is given.
i still don't like zep though.
